Thomas Welde

Thomas Weld was a Puritan emigrant from England and the first minister of the First Church in Roxbury, Massachusetts. He was minister from 1632 to 1641. In 1641 he returned to England, on business for the General Court of Massachusetts and there became the minister to Oliver Cromwell, the Lord Protector of England, and decided to remain until his death, leaving most of his family in Massachusetts.
thomas Weld was ancestor of most the Weld (Welde) family in America. His colleague, John Eliot, who was the teacher at the Roxbury Church, became teacher and minister after Weld, a position Eliot held for 58 years,until his death in 1690.
