Ichthys

The ichthys or ichthus (Greek ιχθυσ meaning fish) is a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs resembling the profile of a fish, which was used by the early Christians as a secret symbol.

There are several possible allegorical references to fish, and to Jesus as a "fisher of men" as well as a possible acrostic relating the Greek letters of "ichthys" to a statement of Christian faith.

The ichthys symbol has been re-adopted by modern evangelical Christians as a badge, often with the word "JESUS" in the centre of the symbol.
