3DMark is a synthetic benchmark by Futuremark (former MadOnion) to determine the DirectX performance of graphics cards.

The measurement unit 3DMark is intended to give a normalized mean for comparing different visual processing units, which makes this benchmark ideal for fanboys who want to make their favourite graphics company look good, based on a single figure.
