Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Collaboration
This page is for discussion on what the WikiProject Comics Collaboration of the Fortnight should be. Anyone is free to contribute, but please don't nominate or support an option unless you are willing to help it improve if it is elected as the fortnight's collaboration. Anyone can nominate an article and can vote for the nominated articles. Every second Sunday, the votes are tallied, and the winner will be promoted for a fortnight to potential contributors. Template:COMICSCOTF
The candidate with the most support as at 11.59pm on Sunday 9 October 2005 UTC will become the Collaboration of the Fortnight from Monday 10 October 2005 (the current time is 09:31, November 18, 2024).
Purpose of the collaboration

Miscellaneous |
Currently, it is believed the purpose of the collaboration should be to work up a comics-related article to featured article status. The articles should either be:
- on a major aspect of the medium
- the main article on a country's specific form
- a major character
- a major publisher
- a highly influential creator
- a major comic strip
- an influential work
We will also look at those articles felt to be near enough to featured article status already such that a collaboration is likely to bring it up to FA quality.
Selection
The collaborations are selected by approval voting.
Voting
If you support an article please vote, by clicking on edit by the article's title, and add a new line with the text # ~~~~. This will add your username and the time you signed automatically. Please add comments if you wish.
- Please only add support votes - opposing votes will not affect the result as the choice is done by approval voting (the most votes, wins).
- Please vote for as many candidates as you like.
- Only registered users may vote.
- Being a member of WikiProject Comics is not a requirement to vote!
Tie-breakers
To keep things simple, if two or more articles have both had the same number of votes by the selection time, the article nominated first is chosen as COTF.
Making Nominations
- At the top of the list of nominees on this page, enter the text {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/COMICSCOTF/name of nominated article}}.
- Click on the appropriate link in the new message box.
- Enter the text === [[name of nominated article]] ===.
- Enter your reason for the nomination, and sign it using ~~~~.
In addition to the above steps please add the text {{COMICSCOTFC}} at the top of the article's talk page.
When a candidate is chosen, the template {{COMICSCOTFNow}} will be added at the top of the article's page, and the name of the article is entered into the template {{COMICSCOTF article}}.
Considerations
- Please only nominate Comics-related articles which are near enough to featured article status already such that a collaboration is likely to bring it up to FA quality.
- Giving reasons to why an article should be chosen will aid others in supporting.
Archiving
If a nomination does not receive enough votes (three votes for every month it is nominated) it will be archived.

Nominations
If your update has not shown up yet, try
.2000AD has already got an exceptionally strong and extensive article in place, which in my opinion should only need very minor work. The comic has been a hotbed of talent for nearly 30 years, launching the careers of people such as Alan Moore, John Wagner Grant Morrison, Mark Millar, Frank Quitely, Simon Bisley and many many more (see the article for a list). The comic is known mainly for the Judge Dredd strip, but the article provides a decent introduction to the range of stories that have run in it over the years. Please support this nomination by adding your name and comments below. Vizjim 14:04, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Fantastic Four is considered the beginning of the Silver Age of comics and pretty much the first of the Stan Lee-Jack Kirby Marvel Comics. The article needs some work, especially the Other media section, which has ridiculous long headings and most of the content about the animated series should probably be moved to seperate articles. Japan is one of the few countries where comics are widely considered an art form, are a major media, offer a wide diversity of generes and are read throughout genders and ages. Also, manga is becoming more and more popular all around the world. I think this article represents a broad aspect of the form of comics and is relatively close to being nominated as a featured article. Fritz S. 11:24, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

- >x<ino 16:13, 23 January 2006 (UTC): i voted for this article because "Types of Manga" is just packed in the article, it needs to be moved to a sub page for less scrolling and more neater, and also for the "Distributors of Manga
- KirbyMeister 02:46, 12 January 2006 (UTC) for reasons listed above as well as the fact it's got a giant few paragraphs of mostly unwikified engrish...
- I support this for the reasons mentioned above. There have been some excellent attempts at trying to fashion the article into the best way possible, but it hasn't completely occurred yet. Perhaps some objective editing from someone other than otaku might help in this regard.--Mitsukai 18:45, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

The series that paved the way for Vertigo (comics). This, among others such as Watchmen, helped change people's attitudes about the literary value of comics. The impact section looks pretty good already, a few references here, a little tweaking there, and I think this could be a FA. -- Norvy (talk) 14:07, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
- Silence 15:05, 20 September 2005 (UTC) - I've been working on these pages some, and I'd certainly welcome the attention of anyone who is able and willing to help, whether this comic becomes the CCotF or not.
- WTH. Give it a bump... - SoM 14:12, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Crisis was one of the most ground breaking events during comic history. It became the basis for a newer streamlined DC continuity, while also establishing the popular megacrossover event that Marvel and DC seemingly run every year. The interest in this should be peaking soon, as the events of Infinite Crisis are directly tied into the aftermath of Crisis, which means many new fans will be looking at the page. Therefore I propose we work it up to featured article status for these reasons. Toffile 22:35, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

- Niklas o'Bee 04:11, 2 May 2006 (UTC) I would like to see some discussion on the main differences betweein Franco-Belgian comics and their American and Japanese counterparts together with the underlying historical and economical roots .
- Gamesmaster 15:48, 12 June 2006 (UTC). Since there's so many well-known Franco-Belgian comics (Asterix? Tintin?) and it deserves improvement.
- Pascal.Tesson 02:27, 13 June 2006 (UTC). A good idea because it helps to balance the focus of the english-language Wikipedia content.

After vague complaints from Byrne himself, Jimbo has requested a complete fact and POV check of this article. This would be a good way to get as many knowledgable eyes on the article as possible. Gamaliel 19:28, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
- KHM03 22:50, 18 September 2005 (UTC) -- this would be great, as I have felt for some time that he is not only one of comicdom's best, but one of the finest storytellers of the past 25 years in just about any genre. I heartily support this one!
This is the main page with regards to the wikiproject and to readers, and so should be of the highest standard. I think this page should be featured before all others as a statement of our seriousness about the medium and artform. Hiding talk 21:22, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

- Lokicarbis 16:16, 18 September 2005 (UTC) - starting at the top seems sensible.

- leigh (φθόγγος) 22:21, 25 September 2005 (UTC) - this is going to take a lot of heavy thinking (and outside reading!), but if we can come to a strong consensus on the issues involved, it will greatly assist future editing.

- This is a long-ignored piece of British history. I wasn't even really aware they had original British comics until Miracleman came out while I was in high school. This is one that should be updated, IMHO.--Mitsukai 16:48, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
- I'm probably biased because this is something I've been wanting to learn more about, but I agree that this is a really promising article. It's also likely to be unfamiliar material for anyone outside the U.K., and I like to see features on things everyone doesn't already know about - Spider-Man et al. seem too easy. ←Hob 21:43, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

Since we already have three DC superheroes, Captain Marvel (DC Comics), Superman and Batman, as featured articles, it seems reasonable to address that balance. - Agreed. I've gone to offline sources (um, books!) to pump up some of the info here. The time seems right for Kirby's mainstream recognition to increase among the general public. - Tenebrae 18:03, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

- Rorschach567 I've always kind of considered article my baby, not to lessen the importance of any of the other people who have worked hard on it but I've always taken a special interest in it and would love to see it a feature article. I think we need some references, though, and that's a bit difficult because most of the info is stuff every comic geek knows. Are there some books that offer good overviews of American comics or the development of the superhero that we can reference?
