Eastville is a town located in Northampton County, Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 203. It is the county seat of Northampton CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography
Eastville is located at 37°21'3" North, 75°56'24" West (37.350961, -75.940056)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²). 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 203 people, 69 households, and 42 families residing in the town. The population density is 356.3/km² (906.3/mi²). There are 75 housing units at an average density of 131.6/km² (334.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 68.47% White, 29.06% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.49% from other races, and 1.48% from two or more races. 0.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 69 households out of which 27.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.9% are married couples living together, 14.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% are non-families. 34.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.84.

History
Eastville has been the County Seat of the County of Northampton, Virginia since 1680. The Old Courthouse was constructed about 1731 and contains the "oldest continuous <a href='http://www.esva.net/Northampton/Eastville/court.html'>county court records</a>" in the United States. This is a true Colonial-Era town; the Declaration of Independence was publicly read from the steps of the courthouse in August of 1776.
