With this 1940 film Alfred Hitchcock began leaving his impression on North American audiences. It is the story, based on a novel by Daphne Du Maurier of a well to do English gentleman who brings home a new wife to his estate to meet the housekeeper and the ghost of his first wife.

By being nominated for a further nine Oscars it became the big loser at the Awards ceremony.
