This page lists automobile engines that Volkswagen has used.

EA111

The EA111 series was introduced in the mid 1970s in the Audi 50 and later the VW Polo. It is a series of three- and four-cylinder petrol and Diesel engines in a variety of sizes. The overhead cam engine features a crossflow cylinder head design and directly-driven auxiliary units.

1.0

The 1.0 L version used in the VW Fox produces 52 kW (70 hp) and 89 N·m (65 ft·lbf).

1.4

The 1.4 L (1390 cc/84 in³) version is a DOHC design with 4 valves per cylinder. It has a 10.5:1 compression ratio and produces 60 kW (80 hp) and 127 N·m (93 ft·lbf).

1.6

The other EA111 petrol engine displaces 1.6 L (1595 cc/97 in³) but is an SOHC 2-valve design. With 10:1 compression, output is 74 kW (99 hp) and 140 N·m (103 ft·lbf).

1.4 TDI

The Diesel version is the 3-cylinder 1.4 L (1422 cc/86 in³) 1.4 TDI. It is an SOHC 6-valve engine with direct injection, and a turbocharger and intercooler. Output is 55 hp (41 kW) and 195 N·m (143 ft·lbf).

EA827

The EA827 family was introduced in 1974 and eventually superseded by the EA113.

EA113

The EA113 was introduced in 1993 as an evolution of the EA827. Both share the same 88 mm cylinder spacing. It was later updated with direct injection.

1.8T

The 1.8T version is a 1.8 L (1781 cc) DOHC turbocharged intercooled 5-valve engine built in Puebla, Mexico and Győr, Hungary. Bore is 81 mm and stroke is 86.4 mm. Output is 180 hp (134 kW) at 5500 rpm with 173 ft.lbf (235 Nm) of torque at 1950-4700 rpm.

It has a cast iron engine block and aluminum cylinder heads. It uses SFI fuel injection, has bucket tappets, features fracture-split forged steel connecting rods, a one-piece cast camshaft, and a cast aluminum intake manifold.
