"Shout!" was a very popular and influential record by The Isley Brothers when it was released in 1959. Written by the brothers themselves, it was a call-and-response answer to Jackie Wilson's seminal "Lonely Teardrops". While the song didn't reach higher than #41 on the Billboard Hot 100, it became their first gold single on the basis of its longevity and became a covered tune for them as British and American rock groups re-recorded the song including one hit cover by Dee Lite and the Starlighters in 1962. The ultimate tribute to the song, however, took place, in 1978 when during the frat party scene in Animal House, the cover band, Otis Day & the Knights, performed "Shout" where it was released and became a hit all over again. The song would go on to be the theme song for the commercial to a detergent also called "Shout!"
