Dawn Porter (born 23 January 1979) is a British television presenter and writer. Dawn was born in Scotland, but grew up in Guernsey. Her mother died three days before her seventh birthday, and she was then raised by her aunt. She studied Acting at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, before graduating in 2001 and becoming a reporter/presenter for BBC Radio Humberside and then BBC Radio 5 Live.

TV career

Porter made her TV debut in the Channel 4 comedy show Balls of Steel, which saw her testing the morals of British men.

More recently, she attempted to slim down to a size zero by using drastic dieting regimes for the BBC documentary Super Slim Me, highlighting the media and fashion world's obsession with thin models and actresses. Porter also presented the product-testing section of How to Look Good Naked on Channel 4.

In 2018 she presented a BBC Three series of four documentary films, 'Dawn...', exploring attitudes to nudity, lesbianism, dating, pregnancy and childbirth. The were titled 'Dawn Gets Naked', 'Dawn Goes Lesbian', 'Dawn Gets A Baby' and 'Dawn Gets A Man'.[1] [2]

Porter also appeared in Seriously Dirty Dancing, in which she paid tribute to her favourite film, for Five in their highest rated documentary of 2008.

Additionally, in 2008 she made a four-part series for Channel 4[3] titled 'Dawn Porter: Extreme Wife' which saw her travelling the world looking at the most extreme ways women find love and live with men. The Guardian reviewer said about the series, "Is it just me who feels insulted by this dreadful series?" [4]

The first programme, "Dawn Porter: Free Lover", was broadcast in the UK on Channel 4 on 30 September 2008 at 10pm. Dawn travelled to Germany to visit Zegg, a German Free love commune. The programme highlighted the world of Free love and included discussions with the people who lived in the commune. It premiered with 1.75m viewers (10.7% share).[5]

The second programme, "Dawn Porter: Mail Order Bride", was broadcast on 7 October 2008. Dawn travelled to the Ukraine with a group of American men in their search for a partner. She also had discussions with the women who were looking for men. It highlighted the highs and lows of the industry and gave an in depth view of the effects that the experience has on the individuals.

The third programme, "Dawn Porter: ninja Girl", was broadcast on 14 October 2008. Dawn travelled to Japan and learned about Japanese geisha culture. She spent a week in a geisha house while learning the processes of becoming a geisha.

The fourth programme, "Dawn Porter: Polygamist's Wife", is due to be broadcast on 21 October 2008, and invstigates women who are prepared to share their husbands with other women.[6]

Dawn has her own TV Production company called, Hot Patootie TV.[3] She is represented by Duncan Hayes at United Agents.

Publishing deal

She has a publishing deal with Virgin Books for her novel Diaries of an Internet Lover - an in-depth journal of her experiences of meeting people on the Internet, which has been published in German, Dutch and Portuguese.

Porter is currently working on a new writing project.[7]
