"Like a Star" is a Grammy Award-nominated song by Corinne Bailey Rae, released in 2005 as her debut single and re-released in October 2006.

Original release

The "Like a Star" single was originally released in Britain in November 2005. It was released in a limited edition format and only 3000 copies were made, making the CD a much sought after item by Rae fans. It was sent out to test the water ahead of a proper release, and after Rae gave a critically acclaimed performance of the song on Later...with Jools Holland, it instantly sold out.

Written entirely by Rae herself, and produced by Steve Chrisanthou, "Like a Star" won much critical praise and was championed by Radio 1 DJs Colin and Edith. The rich soulfulness of the vocals and the laid back smooth production introduced the world to Rae.

Because the single was only available in a limited edition format, it did not receive a conventional release—it was released only in the UK and only 3000 copies were made.

Re-release

"Like a Star" was re-released in the UK in October 2006 because of the popularity of the song. There was a new music video for the re-issue and the single peaked at number thirty-two, two places above where it originally peaked in 2005. The single was released in the United States in January 2007 and debuted at number fifty-six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Rae performed the song and "Trouble Sleeping" on NBC's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. It was used in the ABC television shows Grey's Anatomy and Men in Trees. It was also featured on an episode of Medium on NBC. Rae also performed the song at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards and the song received a Song of Year nomination at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards.
