The Amazing Race 8
Appearance
The Amazing Race 8 (titled The Amazing Race: Family Edition) is the eighth installment of the popular reality television show, The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race 8 differs from previous installments of The Amazing Race in that instead of pairs of adults (with a pre-existing relationship), this race features families of four and allows for the participation of minors (as young as the age of 8). However, the Race will return to the original teams of two adults for The Amazing Race 9.
The season began with a 2-hour premiere on September 27, 2005.

- Green means the team won the Fast Forward clue.
- A yellow > means that team chose to use the Yield; < indicates the team who received it.
Trivia
General
- In total, the winning team logged approximately eleven thousand of miles of travel.
- At the age of 8, Austin Black is the youngest person to ever compete in the Race.
- Route Markers have been colored yellow and silver, similar to the Season 1 colors of yellow & white (and in contrast to the yellow & red of seasons 2-7). This matches the silver 'Family Edition' lettering in the logo.
Pre-Race
- In March 2005, host Phil Keoghan toured major cities in the United States (Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Albuquerque, Phoenix, and Los Angeles) to scout contestants for the race.
- Brittney Rogers was a former Miss Louisiana, appeared on a special Miss USA edition of Fear Factor, where she won $50,000. She gave half to charity. [1]
In-Race
- For this race, the supplied credit card covers not only airfare, but also gasoline; previously, gasoline had to be purchased with the supplied cash.
- This Race marks the first time a leg was held entirely within the continental USA, as all other legs that have events inside the USA, mainly the first and last legs of previous Races, end or start in another country. CBS attributes this more domestic race to a family-friendly model. An American flag is clearly featured in the introduction of the show and a challenge in the 1st episode featured retrieving and folding an American flag.
- Kevin and Drew from Season 1 appeared in the first leg of the race handing out clues for teams in New York.
Post-Race
- The Schroeder family had to evacuate their New Orleans home due to Hurricane Katrina and are currently staying with the Rogers family in Shreveport, Louisiana.
