Manakala or Manakkala is a village in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala state, India. It is located 3km from Adoor. Manakala is the hometown of the prominent film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Manakala is home to one of the best Engineering colleges under Cochin University and the students here have secured many University Ranks in the past years.One of the Government polytechnique under kerala University is situated here.There is also one very famous vishnu temple here (Srinarayanapuram temple) which is more than 200 years old.The well known Shiva Temple, Peringanadu Trichendamangalam Mahadeva Temple which is known for its 'Kettu Kazhcha' during the annual festival is located 2km from manakala. There are few Churches of prominence in this area. St. Marthsmooni Orthodox Syrin Church, St. Thomas Marthomite Church, Church of South India, Bible College and related institutions of Sharon Pentacostal Mission are commendable establishments and contribution of Christian Community in this part. Mannady Temple, which is known for Mudiyettam,and the place which has got historical importance due to the Sacrifice of the Great Soldier, Travancore Diwan Veluthampy Dalava, who fought the British Raj, till his last breath, is just 6 km from here. The inhabitants of this village are mainly dominated by Hindu community but there is a significant Christian population and a few Muslims.The Prominent Christians of this place is said to be descendants of Bhattathiri Brahmins converted into Christianity by St. Thomas, one of the Disciples of Lord Jesus Christ. There are historical evidences to this fact and some of the Christians of this place cherish the Old Hindu Lineage. Thus Manakala is also known for its Religious Unity.
