Nicole Richie (b. September 21, 1981) is a socialite best known as a close friend of heiress Paris Hilton. Richie is the daughter of singer Lionel Richie and the God-daughter of pop artist Michael Jackson.

In February of 2003, she was arrested in Malibu, California, and charged with possesion of heroin.

Richie and Paris Hilton were features together on the 2003 reality series The Simple Life, in which the two women lived for a month with a family in the rural community of Altus, Arkansas.

In December of 2003, Nicole publicly spoke out in defense of her god-father, Michael Jackson following his 2003 accusations of child molestation.

Richie made comments at a Los Angeles Lakers game that her favorite player was Kobe Bryant. She then proceded to say "I want to have sex with him." Bryant is already married and about to be tried for rape in Colorado.

During the 2003 Billboard Music Awards the Federal Communications Commission received 80,000 complaints after Nicole avoided the bleep sensor by saying the F-word. This was the earlier FCC complaint record, until Janet Jackson beat it by showing her nipple during the Super Bowl XXXVIII.
