Anonymous call rejection
This page is US-centric and irrelevant to most of the English-speaking world. The codes described are relevant only to the US telephone system. Nevertheless, there's a similar feature in European ISDN Networks, which is mandated by the European Telecommunication Regulation in the Directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications, cf. wikipedia (de).
A phone feature based on Caller ID. Incoming callers with Caller ID blocking on hear a message stating that this line does not accept calls from callers who block their number. Often free with Caller ID on land lines. Not available from most cell phone services with Caller ID, such as Sprint/Nextel, AT&T/cingular, and Verizon Wireless. [1]
How to use
If available, enter one of the following calling feature codes to respectively enable or disable anonymous call rejection:
- enable: *77
- disable: *87
Resulting error message
"The number you are calling does not accept calls from callers who do not allow the delivery of their telephone number, please unblock your number and try again."
or
"We are sorry private calls are not accepted by this number,to complete your call hang up pick up again dial *82 or on rotary phones 1182,then dial the number if call id or call id with name on use your name and number may be displayed"
or

And in the United Kingdom the default and standard message with all carriers is:
"The party you are calling does not accept calls from callers whom withhold the number, please recall disclosing your caller identity."
