Miscellaneous

Soler97,

First of all, thank you for your picture of a Lava Heron. I believe that it is the first one for Wikipedia. I noticed that you tried to add the image to the article. If you are trying to add a picture to the article, try using the [[Image:Koenigsgeier-08.jpg|left|thumb|Adult]] format, obviously replacing the image with yours name, left with right if you want it to be, and Adult with a description of the photo. Also, if the article does not currently have a photo, ala Lava Heron, the first is generally placed in the taxobox. When you edit the page, there is a place for the image in the code at the beginning. Place the name of the image without the word image and without any spaces after the .jpg after the =. It should appear.

Again, thank you for your photograph (it is a pretty good one too) and please feel free to put more images on Wikipedia. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 03:06, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much, Sparrow. I have just added a photo of a Carunculated Caracara without any problems, as well as a few others. Tad (Soler97) Soler97 (talk) 11:25, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Blue-footed booby taking off Ecuador 2267b.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 21:42, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for warning me. I have added a copyright tag. I hope it is OK. I could not see how to remove the warning message though. Soler97 (talk) 10:03, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Ecuador 3159a.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:Ecuador 3159a.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all MediaWiki wiki's. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:Ecuador 3159a.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 00:50, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barking up the wrong tree?

Hi, you asked if even common knowledge needs to be covered by published sources and the short answer is yes per out neutral point of view and verifiability policies. Although you and I might agree that something is common knowledge others may simply have a different point of view on the same information. Instead of Wikipedia asserting that soap is a chemical reaction we source it to a reliable source who makes the assertion - this way we're simply mirroring what knowledge is already out there. -- Banjeboi 16:45, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of "Blahx"

The deletion of an article you created, Blahx, has been proposed for the following reason:

This article is not about Blahx.

You are welcome to improve the article to meet Wikipedia's quality standards and remove the deletion notice from the article. You may also remove the notice if you disagree with the deletion, though in such cases, further discussion may take place at Articles for deletion, and the article may still be deleted if there is a consensus to do so.

Wikipedia has certain standards for inclusion that all articles must meet. Certain types of article must establish the notability of their subject by asserting its importance or significance. Additionally, since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, content inappropriate for an encyclopedia, or content that would be more suited to somewhere else (such as a directory or social networking website) is not acceptable. See What Wikipedia is not for the relevant policy. You may wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Thank you.  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 01:58, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, I was trying to use it as a sandbox. When I tried the actual sandbox I found it conflicted with someone else, and creating a user page looked too complicated, hence my non-article on blahx. Soler97 (talk) 02:36, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Math notation style

Hello. Please note these differences:

(sin(z)*log(z) - tan(z))/(z2*cos(z) - 2z) * c
(sin(z) log(z) − tan(z))/(z2 cos(z) − 2z) · c

In the second version

  • z is italicized;
  • the minus signs are not mere hyphens;
  • an asterisk is not used for multiplication.

One can write 3 · 5 or 3 × 5, so we don't need to use an asterisk (whose use in this context I think was probably introduced only because of limited character sets). See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (mathematics). Michael Hardy (talk) 17:56, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

November 2008

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Themfromspace (talk) 00:03, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Tierazon

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Tierazon, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
