Gríms saga loðinkinna, or The Saga of Grim Shaggy-Cheek, is classified in Old Norse and Old Icelandic literature as one of the fornaldarsogur, or "sagas of the ancient days." These sagas are often set in the eras of earliest settlement of Iceland or before, in the generations preceding in Norway. They also often have mythic or folklore elements to them, and as a consequence are generally taken much less seriously as literature than the classical or family sagas, which are viewed highly, among other reasons, for seemingly modern and logical portrayals of reality. -- synopsis coming -- relation to Egils Saga -- discussion of shamanic motifs and cultural themes.
