Hurricane is the tenth studio album by singer Grace Jones and her first to be released in over nineteen years.[1]
Album information
Producer Ivor Guest confirmed in September 2008 that Jones had completed recording her new album.[2] Nick Hooker has directed the first video from the upcoming album.[3] Other participants on the new album are Sly and Robbie, Brian Eno, Bruce Woolley, Wally Badarou, Tricky, Wendy and Lisa,[4] Uziah "Sticky" Thompson, Mikey 'Mao' Chung, Barry Reynolds, John Justin, Martin Slattery, Philip Sheppard, Paulo Goude, Robert Logan, Don-E and Tony Allen, with recording engineering duties by Cameron 'Engine' Craig.
On June 22, 2007, Jones performed in Copenhagen at Tivoli Gardens theme park. Tivoli's website mentioned the title of her new album as "Corporate Cannibal". [5]
The new album is released on Wall of Sound, with a release date of November 3 in the U.K. At her signing with the label, it was announced that album would be named Hurricane. [6] PIAS, the parent company of Wall Of Sound, will distribute Hurricane worldwide, excluding North America. [1]
Jones performed a two hour concert at Massive Attack's Meltdown festival in London on 19 June 2008 during which she performed four new songs from the album including "This Is", a track which has been leaked onto the internet. [7] [8]
The music video for "Corporate Cannibal" was premiered at the festival. [9][10] The video was officially uploaded onto YouTube on 4 July, 2008. [11] "Corporate Cannibal" and its remixes by Atticus Ross, Robert Logan, and The Bug (aka Kevin Martin) were made available on Itunes in late August 2008. The mixes are also streamed on her official Myspace page. [12]
Originally announced to be an 11-track album[13], four tracks "The Key to Funky" (co-written by Jones and Diane Pernet in the late 80s[14]), "Body Phenomenon", "Sister Sister" and "Misery" were ultimately removed from the track listing.
"Williams' Blood" is listed on amazon.co.uk as the second single, to be released on 01 December.[15]
Grace Jones revealed on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross that the album cover features chocolate heads of herself and that she had made them herself.
