In most Christian theology, the fall of man occured in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed God's commandment, "Of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die." (Genesis 2:17).


Some religions interpret the fruit as having intrinsice meaning, while others emphasize the disobedience itself as the original sin.


In the Unification Church, the original sin was an act of adultery between Eve and the archangel Lucifer.
