Cor-ten steel is a proprietary material which was developed to obviate the need for painting, and has a rustlike appearance. The use of Cor-ten in construction presents several challenges; notable among them is ensuring that weld-points weather at the same rate as the other materials.

Cor-ten steel is popularly used in outdoor sculptures and as exterior facades for its rustic antique appearance.
