WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 (Exciting Pro Wrestling 7 in Japan) is an upcoming video game to be released on the PlayStation 2 console and PlayStation Portable handheld console by THQ. It is part of the WWE SmackDown! series based on WWE's weekly TV show of the same name. SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 is the follow-up to 2004's WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW. The game is to be released November 14, 2005 and it is thought that future games will no longer have "taglines" unlike the previous games before WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW.

The main focus for this game is try and bring a more realistic and authentic gameplay to the series and the many new features to be included in the game focus on that. The characters have all been digitally scanned to look more realistic and 40% of all the moves available have been reanimated. A new Momentum bar has also been introduced, replacing the old Clean/Dirty and SmackDown! meters, which will determine the flow of the match.

Features

It terms of matches, an improved Cage Match has been confirmed, along with a "Legend" Cage Match, which consists of the old blue steel cage popular in the 1980s and early 1990s. The Bra and Panties match has been replaced by a Fulfil Your Fantasy match, which is based on the costume-based diva match that occurred on Taboo Tuesday. Also new this year is a match requested by fans, the Buried Alive Match. Although in name the match will be more like a Casket Match, in that you have to trap your opponent in a casket to show a cutscene of the burial. Backstage fights have also been improved in that there will be random people backstage during the fights who you can interact with.

The new Season Mode, which is traditional in the SmackDown! series, features 100 different motion-captured cinematic cutscenes, real-time storytelling and improved voice acting. Created Superstars will also have their own voice, a choice of five original voices, along with any voice of an existing superstar on the roster. Season Mode will go up to two years, one for RAW and one for Smackdown!. The objective is to win all the belts for both brands.

Some of the WWE Legends will also have voice-overs included with their personas and will be playable in Season Mode, unlike the game's predecessor, WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW.

Create-A-Belt is also a feature, and along with all the current WWE title belts, make a return for this newest incarnation of SmackDown! vs. RAW. Ted DiBiase's Million Dollar Belt, as well as the WWE Hardcore Championship, can also be won and defended in the game.

100 different new match types will be infused in this version, with a new 3-D customizable locker room in season mode.

For the first time in the SmackDown! series, this game will also be available on the PlayStation Portable.

Although it is said that it will be very similar to the PS2 version, there are special features that are exclusive to this version that the PS2 version does not bear and vice versa. Because of this, to unlock the full features of each game, connectivity between the PS2 and PSP is needed.

The portable version has been stated to contain an exclusive wrestler. Other notable differences between the PS2 and PSP version include the lack of in-ring commentary and some of the superstars' voiceovers (only the more popular superstars will have their voiceovers included).

It is rumored that Jake "The Snake" Roberts will be an exclusive legend, only for the PSP, although it has not yet been confirmed at this time.
