Hellboy

Hellboy is a comic book created by Mike Mignola.

The titular character is a monster summoned by a fictionalzied Grigori Rasputin. Hellboy is a member of The Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, a United States government agency dedicated to combating occult threats. Hellboy has encountered sorcerers, Nazis, the Thule Society, hollow earth explorers, werewolves, vampires, a homunculus and other oddities.

Mignola's stories are heavily influenced by--and have been dedicated to--H.P. Lovecraft, Jack Kirby, Edgar Allen Poe and others. Horror stories of the Weird Tales variety are an important touchstone.

Writer Robert Bloch praised Hellboy as one of the most innovative and entertaing comics in recent years.

Hellboy has been adapted into a film by director Guillermo del Toro and stars Ron Perlman and Selma Blair.
