Biography

Vishal Devgan (born April 2, 1967, Bombay, India), popularly known as Ajay Devgan is one of the best Indian actors working in the Hindi film industry (Bollywood). He is originally from Punjab. His father is Veeru Devgan, an fight master.

His debut film was a hit. He then went on to do films which required a lot of action. He did many of his stunts himself. His intense look and persona made him a favourite with the audience. The trend of action films was soon broken when he did the film Ishq. He also met his future wife Kajol on the sets of Ishq.

This was followed by critically acclaimed hits in Zakhm and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. He was awarded the National Award for his role in Zakhm. Ajay gave hit after hit and he established his credability as an actor. He gave another critically acclaimed hit with The Legend of Bhagat Singh. His brilliant performance got him his second National Award.

His association with Ram Gopal Verma resulted in box office successes, notably Company and Bhoot.

Of his recent films he had a critically acclaimed performance with Main Aisa Hi Hoon and a hit with Kaal.

Personal Life

He previously dated Karisma Kapoor. He married his long time girlfriend, Kajol on February 24, 1999. He has a daughter called Nysa. It came as a surprise to many when his and Kajol's relationship came to the public light as she was, and still is, considered to be one of the most popular and beautiful actresses of her generation and he was known for being the dark horse. However Kajol is noted for repeatedly stressing the faith she has in her husband's abilities as an actor and these abilities were proved beyond doubt when he twice garnered the National Award for Best Actor for the movies Zakhm and The Legend of Bhagat Singh. Today he is considered by many of the industry's purists to be a better actor than the more popular Shah Rukh Khan and this has led all the more credo to Ajay Devgan's and Kajol's reputation as a star couple.
