Nephi, son of Helaman
This article is about Nephi, the son of Helaman in the Book of Mormon. For other uses, see Nephi (disambiguation).
Nephi, along with his brother Lehi, were Nephite missionaries. His father was Helaman, and his sons include Nephi and Timothy, two of the twelve Nephite disciples of Christ.
In addition to his teachings about the gospel of Jesus Christ, Nephi teaches the idea that the earth moves around the sun, an idea that Capernicus is credited with discovering more than 1700 years later. In Helaman chapter 12:15 Nephi states, "it appeareth unto man that the sun standeth still, for surely it is the earth that moveth and not the sun."
Mormon abridgement of the Third Book of Nephi and part of the Fourth Book of Nephi comes from Nephi's records.
