Wikipedia:WikiProject Physics
Goals
The goals of WikiProject Physics are to improve the quality of existing articles related to Physics, to create articles to cover a broader range of physics topics, and to categorize and link them in appropriate ways. The result of this work should be articles that are accessible to the lay reader and yet also useful to the professional working in the field. Some articles will be of interest to grade-school students, others only to advanced graduate students and post-docs: both communities should be served.
Concrete proposals, suggestions and activities are discussed on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Physics page, and any and all interested parties are encouraged to join up and participate!
Please be aware that the caliber of the current participants is quite high: many, if not most of the active participants of this project are either graduate students in physics, or are practicing professionals and academics. This is stated not to discourage membership, but to encourage it: we need a few more amateurs to tell us when the articles have gotten too obtuse and difficult to understand, and a few more professionals to oversee the accuracy of the content in assorted subfields. Either way, when you talk here, you'll be talking with peers.
Scope
The scope of this project is basically everything on Wikipedia that is concerned with physics. Please be aware that, as of November 2005, there are over 11,000 articles on mathematics and physics (See Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Current activity), and so this scope is very broad.
Of particular interest are issues dealing with core physics concepts and issues. In particular:
- Organization of categories in the top level Category:Physics
- General physics discussions, e.g. concerning the content of physics articles on Wikipedia (use the talk page).
- Watching out for pseudoscience in physics articles and categories (see the list of these topics).
- Helping to keep the Physics Portal in good shape.
A dedicated volunteer is needed to set up and operate a page similar to Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Current activity. This will make the monitoring and review of new physics articles much easier to manage.
Participants
If you plan to be active in editing articles realting to physics, please add your name and your interests to the participants list!

The physicists' watchlist
There are alot of physics pages on Wikipedia that could use reading by a knowledgable eye. In addition to writing notes on the talk page, each participant can also list 2-3 pages, which they think currently need attention, directly on the project page next to their name.
- Karol - Thermodynamics - Physics education - Physical phenomenon
- Mike Altieri - Black Holes
- Vb - Eigenvalue, eigenvector, and eigenspace. This the mathematics collaboration of the week. Now it looks like a chaotic big stub. It should be supported by physicists too.
- Count Iblis - Variable speed of light
- Steve Lee - optical tweezers
- Alison Chaiken - Fermi surface. The present article is a nice start but has grammar and logical problems.
