Slide one: Volcano Research project Ruiz, Colombia http://www.lukemastin.com/diary/photos_colombia/nevados_ruiz.jpg /media/wikipedia/en/5/55/Ruiz_volcano.jpg "I did my research project on Ruiz, which is in Colombia."

Slide two: Type of Volcano: Stratovolcano http://wapi.isu.edu/EnvGeo/EG6_volcano/images/stratovolcano.gif A stratovolcano is the most deadly of the volcano types. Their lower slopes are gentle, but they rise steeply near the summit. Stratovolcanoes have a layered appearance with alternating lava flows.

Slide three: Type of Eruption: Vulcanian Eruption http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~debari/309/vulcanian.jpg A Vulcanian Eruption bursts into life after a long dormant period. They begin with noisy, violent eruptions and after magma comes out with loud bangs.

Slide four: Geographic location: Colombia, South America (4.9N, 75.3W) http://www.brookes.ac.uk/geology/8361/images/colombia.gif Ruiz is located in Colombia, South America.

Slide five: Nearest town: Armero which is 15 km away from Ruiz, its population is 28700. http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/Imgs/Jpg/Ruiz/30410135_070_med.jpg The nearest town was Armero which is the town that was most affected by Ruiz's eruption. This is a picture after the eruption.

Slide six: The eruption: Date of most recent and most destructive eruption: November 13, 1985. http://curriculumvisions.com/UK/volcano/pix/LaharMtStHUSGSslide13.jpg Ruiz is the northern-most historically active volcano in South America. Because of the high elevation of the summit, the volcano is capped by a large volume of snow and ice. The 1985 eruption of Ruiz, although only moderately explosive, produced mudflows which reached the town of Armero and killed more than 21,000 people. This eruption of Ruiz was the second mostly deadly of the century.

Slide seven: The effect on the people of Armero was catasrafic: http://www.contactpressimages.com/portfolios/fournier/main_pix/fourn_port1f.jpg This is a picture of Omayra Sánchez. She was a 13 year old victim of Ruiz. She was trapped for 3 days in water, concrete, and other debris up to her neck before her body temperature drop so low and her body started to decay whille she was alive. It killed her.
