Grand Slam (professional wrestling)
Grand Slam Champion, or Grand Slam Champions are names usually given to a person or team who has won every title or tournament.
The title is usually used to describe a wrestler who has won the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship, the WWE Intercontinental Championship, the WWE European Championship and either the WWE Tag Team Championship or the World Tag Team Championship. Note that all Grand Slam Champions are necessarily Triple Crown Champions.
Despite the creation of the Hardcore and Cruiserweight titles later on, these have never been included in the Grand Slam. In addition, earlier titles such as the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship are not included.
Because the WWE European Championship is defunct, it is unlikely there will be any more Grand Slam Champions. It is sometimes argued that the WWE United States Championship, the SmackDown! equivalent to the (Raw-exclusive) Intercontinental Championship, should be included in the Grand Slam. If this was the case then Stone Cold Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Ric Flair and Chris Benoit would also have been Grand Slam Champions.
There is generally no equivalent to the Grand Slam for female professional wrestlers, due to the small amount of divas that are involved in actual wrestling capacity (as opposed to being valets or managers), and due to the lack of exposure to women's wrestling in general (case in point: there is no equivalent to the Intercontinental Championship contested only by women, and WWE's women's tag-team titles are now defunct). It is to be noted, however, that any of the men's titles can be contested by women, although Chyna is the only wrestler to date who has won a championship title (the Intercontinental Championship) considered to be part of the Grand Slam.
WCW also had the equivalent of a Grand Slam, which could be won by winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship, the WCW World Television Championship and the WCW World Tag Team Championship. Among the winners of the WCW Grand Slam are Ric Flair, Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Chris Benoit, Sting, Lex Luger, Scott Steiner and Barry Windham.
