Where's Waldo? is a series of children's books created by the late British illustrator Martin Handford. The goal is to find a certain man, Waldo, in a picture full of small distracting images. Waldo is always dressed in a red and white striped shirt and toque, carries a wooden walking stick, and wears glasses.

There was no story; just incredibly complex full-page pictures of hundreds of crudely drawn people doing various amusing things. The purpose of "reading" these books was to find Waldo, which could be a trick, as he was always well hidden. In on instance, the page is full of people masquerading as Waldo and you had to tell which was the true figure.

The Waldo series would not have been nearly as popular had it not been for the inherent charm of the illustration. One could sit and enjoy the slapstick interactions between the tiny people, who in any given book could range from knights fighting, to miners digging, to monsters in a haunted house, and therefore it entertained both younger and older children alike.

Less popular characters,, who you also had to find included: -Wanda (Waldo's girlfriend) -Odlaw (Waldo's arch-nemesis) -The Scroll -The Key -The Waldo Watchers (his fan-club) -Waldo's Dog

Books in the original Where's Waldo series include: - Where's Waldo (original book) - Find Waldo Now! - The Great Waldo Search

In the UK these are published as Where's Wally?.
