Nova 106.9 (call sign: 4BNE) is a commercial radio station operating in Brisbane, Australia, owned by the DMG Radio Network. DMG Radio purchased the Brisbane FM licence for $80 million in April 2004 to complete their national network of Nova stations.[1] Nova 106.9's studios are located at 130 Commercial Road in Teneriffe.
History
Following the successful bid for the last commercial FM licence to be auctioned for Brisbane in April 2004, on the frequency originally occupied by Ipswich station Q-FM which later changed its name to Star FM, Nova 106.9 – call sign 4BNE – began test transmissions in August 2004. These transmissions featured comedy pieces with a 'personality' by the name of "Bevan - The Work Experience DJ" who is widely rumoured to be Comedian Simon Kennedy. Bevan still is a feature in Nova 106.9's programming often hosting infrequent shows at Christmas time and special events. The test broadcasts continued up until the official launch on 4 April 2005 from a temporary studio in a converted Teneriffe woolstore, while the new studio complex was being completed upstairs in the same building. The new studio complex became operational in February 2006.
Nova 106.9 took over rival B105's sponsorship of the Brisbane Broncos in late 2006, and Nova's logo replaced B105's on the Broncos training gear.[2] In 2007 it became the official FM station for the Rugby League State of Origin series, and a media partner of Queensland Roar, the Brisbane Lions, the Queensland Bulls and the 2008 Summer Olympics.[3]
Ash and Luttsy also regularly appear on the NRL Footy Show on Thursday nights, aired on the Nine Network.
Studios
The Nova 106.9 Studios are located in a converted woolstore in Teneriffe. The interior of the building retains as much of the original construction as possible with the open office construction with no ceilings.
The Studio block consists of 5 broadcast and production studios as well as a newsroom. The master control room is located outside as a showpiece overlooking the foyer and a bridge across an atrium for natural light to access the floors below.
The complex is based around the Klotz Digital Vadis audio system linking all the studios and Master Control to the transmission site at Mt Coot-tha. The Studios use the Maestro Digital Audio playout system as used by all the Nova stations.[4]

Breakfast – Meshel, Ash & Tim with Luttsy
The breakfast show of Nova 106.9, Meshel, Ash and Tim with Luttsy, is the flagship program of the station aimed at capturing an audience for the rest of the day. The show runs from 5:00am to 9:00am weekday mornings. From 5:00am to 6:00am is highlights of the previous days show.
A podcast of the breakfast show is uploaded daily onto the Nova website and onto iTunes around 12:00pm weekdays. The podcast lasts for about 25 minutes, showcasing the best bits of interviews and segments of the day.[5]
In July 2009, Kip Wightman left Nova 106.9 to travel the world with Nova 100 Melbourne's Tim Blackwell replacing him.
Mornings – Whippy
Weekdays from 9:00am – 12:00pm. Whippy (Brendan Dangar) – Formerly of B105, Whippy was Nova 106.9's first on-air signing more than a year before the station began official transmission. He was also one of the original announcers on Melbourne's Nova 100 when that station launched in December 2001.
Afternoons – Cat Lynch
Weekdays from 12:00pm – 4:00pm. Former announcer at Nova 93.7.
Drive – Ryan, Monty & Whippa
Weekdays from 4.00pm - 6:00pm. Networked from Melbourne.
Early Nights – Merrick & Rosso & Kate Richie
Weekdays from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. Merrick Watts, Tim Ross and Kate Ritchie is a best of show from the Nova 96.9 breakfast show that day. Kent Small (Smallzy) from the Launchpad anchors during this time.
Nights – Launchpad with Michelle & Smallzy
Monday - Friday from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. Formerly the Nova 19s, Launchpad is the nationally named night show hosted by local announcers in each capital city. In Brisbane it is hosted by Michelle Anderson who formerly hosted a drive show on Nova 100 in Melbourne and Kent Small (Smallzy) who was formerly an announcer on Star 104.5 in Gosford. Focussing on playing new music, the Launchpad show also features interviews with local and international acts and gives listeners the opportunity to win a host of prizes. Podcasts of the show are available online.
During the NRL season, Nights is broadcast from outside Suncorp Stadium if the Brisbane Broncos are involved in Monday night football, or, occasionally, during the AFL season, from the Gabba if the Brisbane Lions are playing.
Weekends/Floater
Bossy
Saturdays from 12:00pm – 5:00pm, and some Sunday mornings. Bossy (Brendon Boss) – Formerly of Gold Coast's 102.9 Hot Tomato. Bossy spent time with Nova 96.9 as a weekend announcer before his move to Queensland. Bossy is also one of the game-day host's for the Queensland Roar FC at Suncorp Stadium.[6]
