Faster Pussycat
Faster Pussycat is a Los Angeles glam metal band formed in the 1980s and named for the 1965 film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. Their first album, Faster Pussycat, was released in 1987. The band hit their high point in 1989 with their second album, Wake Me When It's Over with its hit ballad, "House of Pain", which went gold. When grunge took over in popularity in 1991, Faster Pussycat fell off the map as their genre of music quickly went out of style, though they did release their third album Whipped!, which featured backing vocals by Bekka Bramlett.
Tracii Guns was briefly a touring guitarist for Faster Pussycat. The lead singer for Faster Pussycat is Taime Downe (ex-Bondage Boys). Taime's other claim to fame was as co-owner (with Riki Rachtman, who guested on the first Faster Pussycat album and was later host of MTV's Headbanger's Ball) of The Cathouse, a popular heavy-metal themed night club in Los Angeles. Faster Pussycat's lead guitarist is Brent Muscat, brother of Todd Muscat (who was bass player in a number of influential Los Angeles based bands including Decry, Kill For Thrills, and Junkyard). Brent Muscat has also played as a touring guitarist for L.A. Guns, and appears on the two bonus live tracks on L.A. Guns' Rips the Covers Off. Guitarist Greg Steele was once co-guitarist with Brent Muscat in Faster Pussycat.
Taime Downe is also in the band Newlydeads. Taime Downe sang backing vocals on Skid Row's cover of the Ramones's "Psycho Therapy" and has recorded with Pigface.
Eric Stacy (ex-Champagne) was once Faster Pussycat's bassist and Mark Michals was once Faster Pussycat's drummer. Mark Michals was fired after their second album due to drug-related legal trouble. Drummer Frankie Banali briefly played with Faster Pussycat as a touring drummer, before the band hired drummer Brett Bradshaw (ex-Blackboard Jungle). Currently, Faster Pussycat features guitarist Xristian Simon (ex-Newlydeads), bassist Danny Nordahl (ex-The Throbs), and drummer Chad Stewart.
Mick Cripps and Kelly Nickels were in Faster Pussycat before they were in L.A. Guns. Kelly was replaced on bass by Eric Stacy after injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident coincided with the band being signed by Elektra.
Recently, Eric Griffin from Murderdolls has filled in for Brent Muscat at several Faster Pussycat live shows.
