Dan-Air was an airline based in the United Kingdom that commenced operations in 1953. It operated for most of its existence from London Gatwick Airport. It was eventually absorbed into British Airways in the mid 1990s. It operated a large fleet of De Havilland Comet aircraft, becoming the last airline to operate the type. It was also one of the last carriers outside of the third world to operate the BAC 1-11.

Incidents and Accidents

A Boeing 727-64 (G-BDAN) crashed on the 25 April 1980 while attempting to land at Los Rodeos Airport in Tenerife, Canary Islands. The aircraft flew into some terrain while circling the airport. All 146 on board perished.

A Hawker Siddeley HS748 (G-BEKF) crashed on the 31 July 1979 in the Shetland Islands, Scotland. The aircraft came down shortly after take-off. The cause was put down to pilot error.
