Compassion International is a Christian not-for-profit organization dedicated to the long term support of children living in poverty around the world.

Founded in the 1950's by Rev. Everett Swanson to help street children orphaned by war in South Korea. Today, Compassion International functions in 23 countries, helping over 400,000 children. Compassion International allows contributors to sponsor a child; paying for their meals, clothing, and education, for $28 a month. Over 80% of monthly sponsorship goes directly to addressing the child's needs, and Compassion International publishes a yearly financial statement prepared by an independent accounting firm

Child sponsors can communicate with their children through letters, and some are able vist the children in person.
