Fremont, Ohio

Fremont is a city in Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 17,375. It is the county seat of Sandusky County Template:GR.

Geography

Fremont is located at 41°20'56" North, 83°7'2" West (41.348909, -83.117123)Template:GR, along the Sandusky River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.0 km² (7.7 mi²). 19.5 km² (7.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.85% water.

Demographics

As of the census Template:GR of 2000, there are 17,375 people, 6,856 households, and 4,374 families residing in the city. The population density is 893.3/km² (2,313.1/mi²). There are 7,368 housing units at an average density of 378.8/km² (980.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 82.24% White, 8.29% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 5.85% from other races, and 3.19% from two or more races. 12.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 6,856 households out of which 33.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.5% are married couples living together, 16.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% are non-families. 30.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 3.06.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.0 males.
