Fremont is a city in Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 17,375. It is the county seat of Sandusky CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography
Fremont is located at 41°20'56" North, 83°7'2" West (41.348909, -83.117123)Template:GR, along the Sandusky River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.0 km² (7.7 mi²). 19.5 km² (7.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.85% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 17,375 people, 6,856 households, and 4,374 families residing in the city. The population density is 893.3/km² (2,313.1/mi²). There are 7,368 housing units at an average density of 378.8/km² (980.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 82.24% White, 8.29% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 5.85% from other races, and 3.19% from two or more races. 12.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,856 households out of which 33.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.5% are married couples living together, 16.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% are non-families. 30.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 3.06.
