Folk religion
Appearance
Folk religion is a term used to describe a set of beliefs, superstitions and cultural practices transmitted from generation to generation that have no basis in the teachings of the official religion. However, their believers usually are not aware of any distinction between their folk practices and their official religion.
The term is applied to variants of major religions, so that folk practices amongst people in Christian countries are called "Folk Christianity", in Islamic countries "Folk Islam", and so on.
Many elements of folk religion stem from animistic practices and have been integrated into the daily life of many believers.
