Marielito in the U.S. is a term applied to roughly 120,000 people who fled to that country from the Cuban port of Mariel in 1980.

Scarface, a 1983 movie starring Al Pacino, concerns a Marielito. The orginal version was made in 1932.

Mickey Rourke's name when he returned to professional boxing at the height of his movie career was "El Marielito."
