Reply about Riḍván

What I did was to replace the ḍ with the Latin Extended Additional character <ḍ>, but forgot to put the name within the {{Unicode}} template, which should then diplay the character properly in IE (if you have the right fonts installed). What I'll do now is put the template in the article.

I notice that your using Internet Explorer, try downloading and using Firefox, which not only displays all the special characters properly, but is also more secure that IE. Here's a list of fonts: TITUS Cyberbit Basic, Code2000, Doulos SIL, Chrysanthi Unicode, Bitstream Cyberbit, Bitstream CyberBase, Bitstream Vera, Gentium, GentiumAlt, Visual Geez Unicode, Lucida Grande, Arial Unicode MS, Microsoft Sans Serif, Lucida Sans Unicode (most of these should be free and others will not). Regarding Firefox and IE

I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can.

Look, I wouldn't listen to that person. I have both IE and Firefox on my PC and I don't have any problems regarding conflicts between the two browsers. I use Firefox for my everyday browsing and only IE when it's necesary to use. If your talking about Windows Explorer, than no Firefox will not replace this, because Firefox is only an Internet browser. I'm not sure if i agree with this edit. It seems that since the phrase "fhqwhgadshgnsdhjsdbkhsdabkfabkveybvf" is a used in place of a proper name in the e-mail, and written in all lowercase letters, the correct title would reflect that fact. Sure, in the e-mail it's written in all lower-case. One could easily argue that that doesn't mean much, since "I" isn't capitalized either. If I were to write an e-mail that said "i fixed the wikipedia article. --brian kell", the obvious assumption is that I was too lazy to capitalize anything; my name is still properly written as "Brian Kell", even though I typed it as "brian kell".

But let's assume that fhqwhgads is written in lower-case, that for whatever reason it defies the rule of English that proper nouns are capitalized. That doesn't mean that it should always be lower-case. If it's at the beginning of a sentence, then it should be capitalized, even if it's not normally capitalized in running text. This is the way English capitalization works. The word carrots isn't capitalized, but if I write the sentence "Carrots are orange", or start a Wikipedia article called "Carrots", then it's capitalized. Apologies on opening the flood gates and posting your 'not ready for prime time' essay. I learned a lesson. By the way, I thought the essay was well reasoned and should not justify personel attacks. If it does then I am sure I will be in a worse position than yourself. What i find the most frustrating about the whole school debate is I get accused of being a deletionist, which i am not. But some articles are just so horrific that deletion makes perfect sense. I sometimes wonder if it is time to throw out the current open Afd voting and arguments, since they are such a waste of time. I am leaning towards a closed Afd process, possibly run by a group of Afd admins who decide what is kept or what is deleted, based on the written wiki policies. David D. cleanup and qif

I think nobody will notice the difference unless they have it watchlisted, I was thinking of adding an optional date parameter to the other members of the template:cleanup family... but thought maybe that would be too bold. My original idea was to try to make an undated {{cleanup}} default to the current month/year, but it doesn't seem possible. What I mean is if (in the template)...

...one changed {{{1| }}} to {{{1|{{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}}}}} the date noted in the cleanup tag would continue to update every month, thus changing the category each article is in, unless the template was substed onto the article, which would be best avoided at all costs.
...one changed {{{1| }}} to {{{1|{{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}}}}, all future articles would default to the month and year that that change was made.

Ok. That's fine, but uncommented removal of large chunks of text is difficult to decipher, especially when done by an anonymous contributor. Over the entire english wikipedia, it occurs about once every 40 seconds. I feel more comfortable assuming good faith when text is added than when it is removed. Renovation Rescue

John Siegenthaler would be the only example I could think of. This vandal seems to be a different one. Another method would be to save the proper version somewhere else then speedy deleting the vandalised version and getting rid of its history before restoring the proper version. If it was to be merged into the Sarmi languages article, you'd have the vandals going there. Perhaps it might be worthwhile posting something on the Administrators noticeboard.

An update - I got the "open talk page" thing working, and I also added the ability to have an "on-the-fly" customized edit summary. Typing "c <whatever>" will now give an edit summary of "Reverted <whatever> by ..." ("c" for "c"ustomized). While I can understand and respect your independent spirit, I think some consideration for our shared environment would be more respected. Trust me, you are not being singled-out. I've confronted many other users on this point before. What your (perhaps intentionally) failing to understand is that I am not endorsing you to subst your huge signature, I am saying you need to come up with something smaller and simpler AND avoid using translusion. I'm getting the feeling, though, that you're doing all this simply to make a point. If that's true, than I'll ask that you not disrupt Wikipedia to do it. Mcfly85 voted 3 times oppose the last RFA. He created sockpuppets and voted twice. Now he is having to deal with his RFAr. Being bipolar doesn't seem to help the situation when I got mad. I never ment anything put on my user page that day. I was just mad at myself for allowing Mcfly85 to get to head like that. Please reconsider, at least neutral, and take what I said to heart. It has its strengths and weaknesses, but i'd give it up in a second if I could. Take for example, Isaac Newton. You're right, it was theorized that he was an "Aspie", and rightly so because even though he was one of the most intelligent human beings ever to live, in many ways he was a total dumbass. I mean, who the jabs the corners of their eyeballs with needles to "see what happens"[5]?

If you saw somebody doing that, what would you think? Be honest, don't go PC on me here, I'd think he's ,as we say up here in New England,"retahded".

Throughout my life, I have been scorned for less severe, but nonetheless just as taboo minor social eccentricities. For example, right now I am wearing the hood of a jacket indoors even though I am not cold. Others might be staring at me saying "Why does he look like that?" I say "Why the fuck can't I wear my hood indoors?" Fortunately, right now I don't need anything from anyone else who isn't indebted to my needs in some way and people in general are as self-absorbed in their own endeavors anyhow, so I have no need to succor anyone else at the present moment.

You can find the proposal at the bottom of Wikipedia talk:Redirects for deletion. The important bits at this point are under the "Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair" heading. There's some other discussion that I, of course, find endlessly fascinating, but you may not.

Anyhow, if you could chip in with a "Yay" or a "Nay" or a "Needs work" on the talk page, that would be swell. I kinda wanna be able to point at "These guys said it was okay" before I make any big changes.
