The tumbi is a traditional Punjabi string instrument associated with the Bhangra folkdance.

The tumbi was popularized a Punjabi folk and evergreen singer, Yamla Jatt (also spelled 'Jamla Jatt'). The body of the instrument is made from various types of wood over which a skin is stretched and string is attached. It is played with the continuous flick and retraction of the forefinger. The tumbi has been used by many of the famous traditional Punjabi singers such as Mahiya, Challa, Jindua and Jugni.

"Mundeya tou bach ke rahi" (Beware of Boys) from Punjabi MC, a huge hit in the UK charts, is perhaps the most widely-known example of the use of tumbi in popular music.
