24 Jan because that is the annual birthday of the Apple Macintosh. It was first introduced on January 24, 1984. — Wackymacs 09:13, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

The Macintosh is a line of personal computers designed, developed, manufactured and marketed by Apple Computer that run the Macintosh operating system ("Mac OS"). Named after the McIntosh apple, the original Macintosh was released on January 24, 1984. It was the first popular personal computer to use a graphical user interface (“GUI”) and mouse instead of the then-standard command line interface. Following the Macintosh introduction, Apple continued production and development of its Apple II family, the company's original product line and main source of income at the time. Since the discontinuation of the Apple II in 1993, nearly all Apple computers have been Macintoshes (with the only exception being the Apple Network Servers of 1996), although the company also manufactures other computer products such as the iPod music player. The current range of Macintoshes varies from the "budget" Mac mini desktop to the mid-range server Xserve. Macintosh systems are mainly targeted towards the home, education, and creative professional markets; more recently, the Xserve G5 server has enabled Apple to gain entry to the corporate market. Possibly because the original Apple computers were called "Apples," the terms "Mac" and "Apple" are often (erroneously) used interchangeably.
