The Ranunculales are an order of flowering plants, which belong among the basal eudicots. Newer systems include the following families:
- Family Ranunculaceae (buttercup family)
- Family Berberidaceae (barberry family)
- Family Menispermaceae (moonseed family)
- Family Lardizabalaceae
- Family Circaeasteraceae
- Family Eupteleaceae
- Family Papaveraceae (poppy family)
- Family Fumariaceae (fumewort family)
- Family Pteridophyllaceae
A few other families may be separated out from the Ranunculaceae. In the older Cronquist system, the Eupteleaceae were excluded, and the Papaveraceae and Fumariaceae (including the Pteridophyllaceae) were treated as a separate order Papaverales.
