Huma Dragonbane

Huma Dragonbane is a fictional character in the Dragonlance world.

Biography

Huma Dragonbane was a Knight of the Crown, wrongly regarded as an avatar of Paladine. A poor, humble knight from a lesser family, he always feel out of countenance by the growing fame his exploits brought him (most of which he feels was forced upon him by fate). He was chosen to find the first dragonlances because Paladine deemed him the one that best embodies the humility and virtues of the Solamnic Knighthood.

He died poisoned by Takhisis, (in her gigantic multiheaded dragon form, prone Takhisis summoned her ebbing powers in a last act of defiance and blew a blast of chlorine gas at him) whom he defeated at the end of the Third Dragon War, becoming the greatest hero in the Knighthood history. Suffering horrific wounds and greatly weakened after the long bloody battles, he succumbed to his injuries, but not before he extracted a vow from the evil goddess that she'll leave Krynn along with all her chromatic dragons. This she agreed to, in exchange for her release from the Dragonlance pinned to her (she was greatly weakened and robbed of her power when Huma drove his Dragonlance into her).

His corpse was entombed in the Dragon Mountains. The name 'Dragonbane' was added posthumously as an honorific title. His true full name was never given in the novels.

He fell in love with a silver dragon who became his mount and who also perished in the battle against the Dragon Queen. His companion, the minotaur Kaz is the only eye witness of his last battle and the vow he forced out of the Dragon Queen.
