During World War II, the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (505th PIR) was a regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army.

The regiment was initially formed at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1942, with combat drops in Sicily, Salerno, Normandy and Operation Market Garden, as well as participation in the Battle of the Bulge.
