Go (band)

Go was a supergroup made up of Stomu Yamashta (percussion and keyboards), Steve Winwood (vocals and keyboards), Al DiMeola (lead guitar), Klaus Schulze (synthesizers), Jerome Rimson (bass guitar), Pat Thrall (guitar on 'Live'), Brother James (congas on 'Live'), Michael Shrieve (drum kit), and Karen Friedman (vocals on 'Live').

For a short time Stomu Yamashta managed to lead this collection of superstars in a group setting. The group, "Go", made two relatively lackluster studio albums, "Go" (1976) and "Go Too" (1977). If this had been all they did together, likely few but the most diehard fans of those performers in the band would know the group ever existed. However the band Go recorded a concert they performed in France, and it was later released as a rather short double album (four album sides running only 63 minutes total). This album "Live From Paris" from that June 12, 1976 concert, made them a cult favorite for those into fusion jazz or electronica at the time. Part of the reason for this is the inspired playing by the members of the band during this concert, with some believing it contains almost every member's best work.

Despite the strong cult following for this group and its individual members, it took over two decades after the advent of the CD for any of these albums to be officially released on that medium, with "Live" being released only recently (Fall/Winter 2005). This, despite progressive record shop owners saying for a time that the question they were asked most often was, "when will Go, 'Live From Paris' be released on CD?"

Even when these albums were released on CD, they were very small pressings. So far they have gone out of print so quickly that not enough copies exist to actually satisfy those interested in getting them.
