Meera Jasmine is a leading South Indian actress, who has acted in hit movies in Malayalam ,Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, and won India's National Award for Best Actress. She has consistently impressed in good roles in all these four languages, and made herself a reputed name in the South Indian film circuit.

Biography

She was born on 15 February 1983 in Kuttappuzha, Thiruvalla to Joseph Philip and Aleyamma. She completed her schooling in Mar Thoma Residential School in Thiruvalla. She currently resides in Panampilly Nagar in Kochi (formerly Cochin). She made her debut in Malayalam movie Soothradharan, but made herself a leading actress through the phenomenal success of her first Tamil movie, Run. This was followed by critically acclaimed performances in Padam Onnu Oru Vilapam (her national-award winning Malayalam movie), Mani Ratnam's Ayutha Ezhuthu (Tamil), Ammayi Bagundi (Telugu) and Sandaikozhi (Tamil). She is currently working busy in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films.

Awards

  • National Award for the Best Actress in 2004 for the film Paadhom Onnu: Oru Vilaapam (roughly translates to 'Lesson One: A Wail') in which she portrayed a Muslim girl who is a victim of child marriage.
  • Kerala State Award for the Best Actress in 2004 for the films Kasthooriman ('Musk Deer') and Paadhom Onnu: Oru Vilaapam ('Lesson One: A Wail').
  • Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 2004 for Paadhom Onnu: Oru Vilaapam.
