Mohammad bin Ali Al Abbar

Mohammad Al Abbar is one of the most prominent citizens of the United Arab Emirates. A trusted aide of Dubai's Ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Al Abbar serves as the Chairman of the Emaar Group, the largest real estate development company in the UAE responsible for most of the construction going on in Dubai today. Emaar is majority-owned by the Government of Dubai.

Al Abbar is also Vice-Chairman of Dubai Bank, a bank that is owned by and operates under the auspices of the Government of Dubai. The Chairman of the Bank is HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum of the Royal Family of Dubai. Al Abbar is widely considered the driving force behind a great deal of the construction in Dubai. In addition, Al Abbar serves as the Chairman of Amlak Finance Company and on the Board of Directors of the Dubai Securities & Commodities Authority.

Al Abbar also sits on the Dubai Executive Council, a powerful advisory council that is responsible for the planning and running of the Emirate of Dubai and is also the Chairman of the Dubai Economic Development Department, a government ministry responsible for attracting foreign investment into the country.

Al Abbar notably spoke for the United Arab Emirates at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in 2005.
