San Fransisco has always had a rich jam band scene, with jam forefathers the Grateful Dead hailing from the Haight-Ashbury area, as well as other acts like Carlos Santana, Jefferson Airplane and Janis Joplin. Do not be surprised if you soon see Tea Leaf Green added to that list. Emerging in the Bay Area with their debut self-titled release in 1999, TLG set straight to work on touring in support of their album, playing clubs all over the Bay Area as well as others. They have made heavy touring a staple of their group, as with many other jam bands. They have gained notoriety and popularity among the fans of the jam scene, including catching the eye of improvisation heavyweight Trey Anastasio and were signed on to tour as support for his Fall 2005 Tour, and it was not uncommon to see the former Phish bandleader come out to jam with them during their set. Most recently they toured as a support act for the popular blues rock outfit, Gov't Mule. (December 2005)
Tea Leaf Green had the pleasure of headlining two nights at their hometown club The Independent on 12-30-2005 and 12-31-2005 to close out a tremendous year of growth for this energetic rock quartet. It has been widely reported that several of those in attendance at these New Year's shows lost or misplaced their minds. Some concertgoers recall seeing birds flying around inside the venue. Some even reported Gorillas and dancing tequila bottles, though nothing has been confirmed as of this writing. On Sunday night January 8, 2006, Tea Leaf Green will make its first headlining appearance at the famed Fillmore West Auditorium in San Francisco to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Fillmore Acid Test. Can you pass the acid test?
Someone familiar with the band believes that thay are the future of sound, but NOBODY really agrees with that. Others consider Tea Leaf Green music to be medicinal; tests are ongoing.
