Aloysius X.L. Pendergast
Aloysius X.L. Pendergast is a fictional FBI agent who appears as a secondary or main character in several novels written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. He is a vary mysterious and elusive character, and over several novels, more information about him is revealed. When he first appears, it is known shown that he is a Special Agent of the FBI from New Orleans, who is not highly viewed by many in the Bureau. It is also shown that he is personally wealthy, and highly cultured and educated.
He first appeared in the novel The Relic (1995). [In the movie version, his character was written out). He would later return in Reliquary (1998), the direct sequal to Relic.
He next appears in The Cabinet of Curiosities (2003), were he takes on a more leading role. We also learn more about Pendergast's family history, and in this novel, Pendergast takes possession of a mysterious house owned by a past relative.
In Still Life with Crows (2003), Pendergast is the leading character, were he uncovers a long held secret, which would lead to several deaths.
Currently, Pendergast is the main character in a trilogy of works that center around his murderous younger brother, Diogenes. The first of this is Brimstone (2004). This followed by Dance of Death (2005) and finally by Book of the Dead, to be published in Summer 2006.
Whether more works with Pendergast will appear has yet to shown.
