Shrewsbury is a Borough located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough had a total population of 3,590.

Shrewsbury was the birthplace of explorer and writer John Lloyd Stephens.

Geography

Shrewsbury is located at 40°19'35" North, 74°3'33" West (40.326524, -74.059289)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²). 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.90% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,590 people, 1,207 households, and 1,016 families residing in the borough. The population density is 627.2/km² (1,627.1/mi²). There are 1,223 housing units at an average density of 213.7/km² (554.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 96.60% White, 0.53% African American, 0.00% Native American, 1.67% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. 1.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,207 households out of which 46.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.6% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.8% are non-families. 12.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.96 and the average family size is 3.27.

In the borough the population is spread out with 30.8% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.2 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $86,911, and the median income for a family is $92,719. Males have a median income of $85,875 versus $37,554 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $38,218. 1.0% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 3.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Shrewsbury is in the Twelfth Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 12th Legislative District.

For the 118th United States Congress, New Jersey's 12th congressional district is represented by Bonnie Watson Coleman (D, Ewing Township).[1][2] New Jersey is represented in the United States Senate by Democrats Cory Booker (Newark, term ends 2027)[3] and George Helmy (Mountain Lakes, term ends 2024).[4][5]

For the 2024-2025 session, the 12th legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Owen Henry (R, Old Bridge Township) and in the General Assembly by Robert D. Clifton (R, Matawan) and Alex Sauickie (R, Jackson Township).[6] Template:NJ Governor

  • There is only one school in Shrewsbury (Shrewsbury Borough School) and it has students ranging from pre-school to 8th grade.
