Ueki making a fool out of himself

Law of Ueki (うえきの法則 Ueki no Hōsoku) is a Japanese manga by Tsubasa Fukuchi (福地翼 Fukuchi Tsubasa). The manga was serialised in Shonen Sunday magazine. The series completed in 16 tankōbon volumes published by Shogakukan. The manga sequel, Ueki no Hōsoku Plus, continues as of September 2005 in the same magazine. An anime adaptation began airing in Japan on April 4 2005.

Summary

Law of Ueki tells the story of a great tournament to decide who will be the next God. Each God Candidate (100 total) is required to choose a middle school student to act as their fighter. Each student is given a unique power--the power to change one thing into something else. The winning God Candidate will become God and the winning student will receive the blank zai, a talent that can be anything they choose. While this leads many students to thoughts of greed and selfishness, our main character, Kousuke Ueki has decided to take it upon himself to win this tournament to keep that power away from those that would abuse such a gift. That is his justice!

Tournament rules

There are a few rules to these fights. A battle is between two gifted. The winner wins by knocking the other combatant out. When a knock out is obtained, the loser will lose their gift and the winner will win a zai from the loser. Zais are talents which each person naturally has. The Zai system is fairly important in battles. With each win, a gifted can gain another zai. Aside from losing a battle, there is another way to lose zais. If a gifted attacks a non-gifted they will lose a zai. The students try not to do this because if they manage to lose all their zai, they will die. God Candidates are not allowed to interfere with their students fight or they will be sent to Hell.

Near the end of the competition, gifted were allowed to from groups for tournament style fighting. Knock outs did not result in losing powers during this stage. Each team is given a penalty if they lose, such as dying or losing your hair in addition to losing their power. To decide who receives the blank zai among the winning team, a device is used to measure the growth in power that each participant has shown from the begining to the end of the tournament. To decide who is to become God, the winning team chooses which of the God Candidates is given that honor.

Characters

Main characters

Template:Spoiler

Kousuke Ueki (植木耕助) - Ueki has the ability to change trash into trees. He is a genuinely kind person who is always trying to help people out. He is a bit of a simpleton who constantly uses his ability against against non-gifted, but that is because he just can't stand seeing these nasty folks defying his sense of justice. Even though he constantly uses up his zais (and gains fairly useless one when he wins), he believes that he can still make do by putting even more effort into succeeding. Ueki is actually a heavenly being sent to Earth in order to take part in this tournament. Being a heavenly being allows him powers beyond his tree making skills. He is still training in the use of these powers.

Ai Mori (森あい) - A classmate of Ueki. She early on discovers his power, at first believing him to be an alien. Upon learning of the competition Ueki is in, she decides to back him up, to keep him from using up all his zais and dying because of it. She gets pretty strict with Ueki at times, especially when he looks like he is about to do something rash. Later on in the manga, she is given an ability to make people fall in love with glasses by the God Candidate, Wanko. In the anime she has a tendency to make odd looking food, but apparently it tastes good according to Ueki.

Kobayashi Sensei (aka Koba-sen) - The God Candidate that gave Ueki his ability. He is Ueki's school teacher and had been carefully studying him in order to judge his worth for the tournament. He has a very strong sense of justice, actually inspiring Ueki long ago when he saved him from falling off a building. Is sent to Hell for helping Ueki during a fight.

Seiichirou Sano - Sano has the talent of changing towels into iron whenever he holds his breath. Sano gets pretty creative with his ability, creating shields, springboards and even boomerangs. He has a burn over his left eye which was caused during an accident with a hot spring. Still, he does love those hot springs and hopes to get the blank zai to obtain the zai of excavation in order to find a hot spring of his own.

Inumaru (aka Wanko) - The God Candidate that gave Sano his powers. The two met when Sano risked his life to save people from a burning building. Eventually, he gives Mori powers of her own just as he is about to be sent to Hell.

Rinko Jerad - Has the ability to change beads into bombs. She creates special accessories that help her to use her beads in more constructive ways: platform shoes that are made of a special alloy and then filled with beads she can detonate to perform what she calls the "Rinko Rocket", blasting herself off into the air; special metal tubes she calls bead cannons that are filled with beads and then go over her fingers so that she can rapidly shoot bead bombs at her opponents. Rinko had a crush on Robert since he treated her as a friend, but she eventually saw that he just wanted to use her as well. She used to be a member of Robert's Ten but joined up with Ueki instead. She loves all cute animals, taking an immediate liking to Tenko. Rinko comes from a rich family.

Hideyoshi Souya - A gifted that Ueki and Mori meet. He has the power to project a voice onto any portrait he draws. He is prone to deception, using various novelty gags and tricks in a fight. He looks out for a group of kids at a place called the Sun House. His first God Candidate, Nero, was a kind heavenly being that didn't want to become God; he simply wanted to help out humans which he did at the Sun House. Souya offered to become his gifted so that Nero could stay longer on Earth. Unfortunately, he helped Souya during a fight and was sent to Hell. Souya received a new God Candidate whom he hates for turning out to be a jerk and wanting him to joing forces with a nasty bunch of gifted. Agrees to help Ueki when he hears that they can save Nero.

Tenko - A large fox-like creature that helps Ueki awaken his heavenly powers. He is a heavenly beast that is something of a mutation among his kind. He was treated very poorly by heavenly beings and Ueki is the first to actually treat him with some kindness and respect. He is able to detect the power level of heavenly beings and because of his mutations has what is called the "awakening organ" that can awaken the hidden powers within Ueki. Unfortunately, if he uses this power too many times, he will die because of it. Has an ability to spit out a large, roundish bunny creature that enveloped Ueki and heals him within 12 hours. Fairly harsh with Ueki at times, but he is happy to have found someone who actually needs him.

Anon - The true son of Margarette. He is a very talented demon with enormous strength. Anon can absorb people within himself. He has a hard time understanding humans and tends to treat them with reckless curiosity. Has a humble nature surprisingly.

Robert and his Ten

Template:Spoiler

Robert Haydn - Leader of Robert's Ten. He has the power to change any ideal into reality. For instance, if he wanted to create a bubble that can make things light or heavy, he can. He can even boost his own natural sacred treasures by modifying them to a perfect ideal like absolute accuracy or ideal protection. The fault in this is that for every time he creates an ideal, he loses a year of his life, but once he creates this ideal he can use it any time he wants to. That is why he formed Robert's Ten. They act as his brawn, doing the fighting for him in order to save those precious years. He is a fairly nasty character, not caring who he harms and how badly they are harmed. Like Ueki, he is a heavenly being with more power than the gift given by his God Candidate. Unlike Ueki, however, Robert has been training in his power for quite a long time. Robert has an unfortunate past in which he was treated as a monster by the people of his town.

Margarette - Robert’s father and the God Candidate that gave him his power. Sent his own son to Earth so that he could choose him for the tournament. Not above sneaky tactics to ensure his son's victory.

Robert's Ten

Kuroki Kagedan (aka Black Shadow) - He is one of Robert's Ten. He is able to turn his shadow into clay men. He can create more than one--even altering their appearance--which can confuse the enemy and thus keep them from finding the real Black Shadow. If the sun disappears, so does his power. He was the captain of his school basketball team, but because of an unfair ruling during a game, he became the unemotional person who joined ranks with Robert. During his fight with Ueki, he was defeated by a fellow member of Robert's Ten.

Kamui Rosso (aka White Shadow) - He is one of Robert’s Ten. Able to turn shadows into robots. The robots have more than one form. Kind of a pain in the neck. He has little respect for anyone, adhering to the motto “I don’t need any robots that won’t listen to me.” After knocking his fellow teammate out, Ueki takes him out of the tournament with some cunning tree manipulation.

Aleggio Yuriano - He is one of Robert’s Ten. He has the ability to turn soil into scythes of any size. Very loyal to Robert and won't stand for just anyone to join the group. He is a very short tempered individual whom Ueki cannot help but irritate. Upon realizing his heavenly powers, Ueki puts him down for the count with Kurogane.

Don - He is one of Robert’s Ten. Has the ability to turn a ring into a rocket which greatly amplifies any attack. Very proud of his strength. Always has a huge smile on his face even though he has a very large mean streak to him. Ueki retires him from the tournament with his newfound ability of Masshu.

Marco Mardeeny - He is one of Robert's Ten. Has the ability to turn tomatoes into magma. An expert chef who is in charge of cooking for Robert's Ten. He gets very angry when anyone insults his cooking (like Ueki did when he dumped the soup on Alesshio's head). Again, Masshu was the method Ueki used to defeat him.

Rinko Jerad - She was one of Robert's Ten, but she changes allegiances to Ueki's group. See above for more information.

Oni (real name unknown) - He is one of Robert's Ten. Oni has the ability to turn bamboo into giant scissors. Wears an all black outfit with horns and a forehead protector which is actually a form of chain mail.

Becky Wolf - She is one of Robert's Ten. Has the ability to turn bb's that she shoots into meteorites. Hates to be ignored or called small.

Myouji Tarou - He is one of Robert’s Ten. Actually has two powers: ability to turn his whistle into a laser and the ability to turn a fan into a buzzsaw. The buzzsaw can only be avoided by jumping. Dodging it will only result in it following the target. This is used in combination with the laser so that when they jump from the buzzsaw, they are easy targets for the laser. Was given powers by two God Candidates who were in cahoots with each other, but changed their minds after seeing Robert in action. Has a speech impediment. He was the one who recruited Ueki to join Robert's Ten.

Karl Paccho - Robert's second in command. Has the ability to use the powers of any gifted he spends 24 hours with. Uses all of the powers of the gifted in Robert's Ten and two other unknown gifted as well. A very sneaky type who isn't above underhanded tactics to get what he or Robert wants.

Yun-Pao - A replacement member of Robert's Ten. Has the ability to turn electricity into sugar when he keeps his eyes open. When he closes them, the sugar turns back into electricity which can make for a devastating attack. Quite acrobatic as well. Loves the sweets.

Kabara - A replacement member of Robert's Ten. Has the ability to turn a cloak into wings. He can also shoot out the feathers on his wings as he turns them into wing shurikens. He is an expert hunter and is able to shoot small metal balls with as much power as a bullet. Is very fond of showing off his marksmanship skills.

Minor characters

Kami-sama - The current God who sets up this whole tournament. Something of an ecchi type who likes women and drinking.

Yodogawa (aka Yocchan) - Replaces Kobasen as Ueki’s god candidate. Made a deal with another more promising god candidate–Margarette–to lose as soon as possible in order to take a cushy job as his assistant advisor. Does his best to persuade Ueki to quit the tournament, but never succeeds.

Maruo Taira – Ability to change water that has been in his mouth into fire. Usually likes to just blast fire, but he can manipulate by gargling, sometimes making it into an explosive fireball. He wants the talent of control if he wins. He was Ueki's first gifted fight.

Rafati - The God Candidate that gave Taira his powers. Tried to cheat during a fight by giving Taira more water and was sent to Hell for it.

Atachi Toshio - Ability to change cotton into stakes. Wants to obtain the talent of running because he absolutely loves track but he just isn't a very good runner.

Shonen Riho – Ability to change his fighting spirit into energy for one of his attacks. Prefers to fight with his own Taijutsu skills rather than his power. Wants to become a strong fighter in honor of his father.

Ganju - The God Candidate that gave Riho his powers.

Baba Jun'ichi (aka BJ) – Ability to change coins into wind. Absolutely loves hip-hop music. Has a tendency to lie a lot, particularly about who he is when fighting other gifted.

Bolo T - The ability to turn his forehead into diamond whenever he puts his hands in his pockets. Tends to just headbutt his opponents. Hs many zais which he uses quite skillfully in battle. Often incorporates the word “jyan” at the end of his sentences.

Monjirou Oniyama (aka Onimon)- Ability to change soil into cannonballs. Believes in fair and square fights. Has a tendency to shorten words and phrases. Has 299 zais. Loves his home village and wants the village building zai if he wins in order to build his own village back up. Teaches Ueki some basic fighting techniques.

Tournament Teams

There are five teams that made it to the final round of the tournament to find the next God. Other than Ueki's team, there is the Caption Team, Gurono Team, Maririn Team and Barou Team. There is also Anon (disguised as Robert) and Riho who made it as teams of one each. Here are the various teams and their respective members.

Caption Team

Caption - Leader of Caption Team. Able to turn his breath into a freezing gas that encases whatever it covers. He has a level two power which is a red gas that freezes things and makes them easily shatterd by his attack alone. Wants Souya to join his group so that he could use his own power to send his freezing voice from multiple directions. Tends to get impatient.

Mario - Able to turn his body into a giant billiard ball. Likes to give his attacks grandiose english names that sound absolutely absurd.

Yugo - Able to turn rubber balls into acid. One of the gifted that is trying to get Souya to join up with them. He is quite gullible and constantly falls for Souya's tricks.

Nico - Able to turn his hair into a high-powered drill. He likes to attack from the ground where he can surprise people. One of the gifted that is trying to get Souya to join up with them. He is very vain, especially when it comes to his hair.

Zack - Souya's current God Candidate who is actually a nasty guy who wants Souya to join his newly formed group to win the tournament. Is a total jerk that only looks out for himself.

Gurono Team

Gurono Kuwahara - Leader of Gurono Team. He has the ability to turn a toy model into a real life working version. His level two is that he can control whatever he makes come to life. Seems to put up a nice guy front but is actually quite mean.

Pekol - A very timid individual. He has the ability to create pictures into models. When teamed with Gurono, Gurono is unstoppable thanks to the endless supply of models to use! He longs to be strong, but ends up being duped by Gurono. He is later inspired by Ueki to follow his own path towards finding strength.

Gitar - Able to turn his clothing into a barrier. His level two is to attack within the barrier he maeks on his opponent. He cannot do both at the same time. He lied about his power saying he was invulnerable and that he could send out soundwaves, but that was just to psyche out his enemies. Loves music, particulary karaoke.

Muunin - Enjoys traditional poetry. However, when he makes a bad pun and the person he told it to laughs... Well, the pun becomes real. Able to turn the pun attack on himself to attack his enemies.

Pastello - Likes painting and expresses himself through colors ("lucky purple", happy pink"). He can make his line drawings a portal. Using his large brush, he can tickle the opponent, thus making them laugh and become exposed to Muunin's pun attacks.

Maririn Team

Barou Team

Heavenly being attacks

All heavenly beings have the potential to master a total of ten attacks which correspond with different levels of their growth. These attacks are called Jingu, or "sacred treasures". Ueki manifests these abilities through his talent for tree growth. All descriptions will be based on Ueki's method of manifestation.

Kurogane - The one star treasure. A large cannon grows out of a tree from his arm and fires a large ball at the opponent.

Fuudou - The two star treasure. A giant arm grows out of the ground to protect Ueki from attacks. It can also be used offensively by striking at enemies.

Ranma - The three star treasure. A large bladed weapon grows from a tree to strike the opponent.

Pick - The four star treasure. A large column shoots out from the ground very fast towards the opponent. Can be pointed downward to propel Ueki upwards.

Masshu - The five star treasure. A big walking mouth with tree legs comes from the ground to chomp the opponent.

Raika - The six star treasure. A pair of rollerblade like attachments show up on Ueki's feet allowing him rapid movement on the ground. Ueki cannot jump when using these.

Galiper - The seven star treasure. A boxed wall can shoot up from anywhere on the ground to capture an opponent. Any attempts to attack while inside the box are futile and can be directed back at the captured.

Namihana - The eight star treasure. Similar to the Pick, but it can bend at will and is more flexible like a whip.

Seikuu - The nine star treasure.

Maou - The ten star treasure. Translated as "demon king" or "satan."

01. Ueki Kousuke, Law of Justice - Mori Ai had her suspicions of classmate, Ueki Kousuke, but when she learned the truth she was even more surprised. Ueki has the ability to change trash into trees, a gift bestowed upon him by his teacher, Kobayashi. Kobasen is part of a grand tournament to decide the next God, but before Ueki can officially be declared Kobasen's fighter, the middle school student must first demonstrate his own sense of justice.

02. Law of "Battle Start !!" - Mori has decided to help Ueki, but she’s starting to see threats in every direction. When any middle school student could be a gifted, who knows when Ueki will be challenged. Two gifted do cross their paths. One is Seiichirou Sano, a decent type who they met while trying to rescue a small girl from a big fall. Another is Maruo Taira, a less than decent individual who has no problem attacking from behind. With the ability to turn water in his mouth to fire (and a little help from his God Candidate), how will Ueki fair in his first official gifted fight?

03. Law of Zai - With a little help from Seiichirou, Ueki has defeated Taira and his cheating God Candidate, but there are other threats out there. Take Atachi Toshio for instance. He loves to run, but has no talent for it. Lucky for him that he is taking part in a tournament where the winners receive talents as prizes. With his sights set on Ueki, he intends to use his ability to turn cotton into stakes to win his much desired running zai.

04. Flexible Man, Law of Rihou - Mori is determined to learn more about this tournament so when the opportunity arrives to gain such information from Kobasen, she leaps at the chance. During their talks they are interrupted by another gifted. Unlike Ueki’s previous opponents, though, this one is different. Shonen Riho prefers to use his own body to fight rather than his given ability. When Riho starts smashing Ueki’s trees with his bare hands, not even the sarcastic zai can help our hero. So what can he do when Riho unleashes his most powerful attack: The Count of Monte Cristo?

05. The Strongest Ability-Holder, Law of Robert Haydn - With another win and another zai under his belt, Ueki is able to relax for a little bit. When traveling by train one day, he meets BJ, a hip-hop enthusiast who takes an immediate liking to Ueki. So why does he also say his name is Robert Haydn when he discovers that Ueki is also a gifted? Fortunately, BJ’s ability to turn coins into wind isn’t enough to stop Ueki. The two part on friendly terms, but when the real Robert Haydn shows up, what will happen to Ueki’s new friend?

06. Law of Goodbye - Kobasen forbids Ueki from challenging Robert Haydn, telling him that he is just too strong for Ueki. When Ueki hears that Robert has viciously attacked BJ, though, he just gets angry and becomes determined to challenge him. The two meet and Kobasen’s words were correct. Robert is able to deflect every attack Ueki sends at him with his bubbles. Ueki is about to pay the ultimate price for his foolishness, but luckily Kobasen steps in with a last second rescue. But aren’t God Candidates forbidden from helping their chosen?

07. Law of Kobasen - With Kobasen gone, Ueki isn’t sure what he should be doing anymore. In search of answers he goes to Kobasen’s home where he finds an interesting file on his computer. It seems Kobasen has been paying close attention to Ueki, making note of every kind act the boy does. Understanding the faith that his God Candidate had in him, Ueki is determined more than ever to win this tournament and keep the blank zai away from those that would abuse the power. With a new God Candidate backing him, Ueki takes on the next challenge: Bolo T, a gifted with the ability to turn his forehead into diamond.

08. Fair and Square! Law of Onimon - During a run in with some bullies, Ueki and Mori meet Monjirou Oniyama, aka Onimon, a very strong fighter with a sense of fair play. It turns out that he is also a gifted with the ability to turn the dirt he kicks into cannonballs. Clearly outmatched by Onimon’s 299 zais, Ueki is at a disadvantage in this fight. Worst of all, Onimon isn’t such a bad guy, only wanting the blank zai in order to restore his home village to its’ former glory. Will Ueki be able to muster up enough determination to beat Onimon and his philosophy of “fair and square” fighting?

09. Law of Onimon's Training - If Ueki defeated Onimon, why is he still trying to pick a fight with our hero? With the tournament behind him, Onimon comes with a warning to Ueki: beware the Black Shadow Man. With Onimon’s help, Ueki learns about a strategy he can use against this new threat. When Ueki finally does meet up with the Black Shadow Man, Onimon’s training seems to work. Yet with the ability to turn his own shadows into clay, how can Ueki be sure he is even fighting the real Black Shadow Man?

10. The Law of Justice that never comes - No matter how many clay men Ueki takes down, they just keep coming. Despite these overwhelming odds, Ueki still fights Kuroki Kagedan, the Black Shadow Man. When he learns about the horrible event that lead to him joining Robert’s Ten, Ueki is determined to get through to him. Hoping to convey his own sense of justice, Ueki slowly reaches him. When the two finally start to fight on equal terms, another gifted shows up to put a stop to this fight by attacking Kuroki. But wait…isn’t this new gifted also a member of Robert’s Ten?

11. Law of Robert's Ten - The White Shadow Man is Ueki’s opponent now and his ability to turn his own shadow into a robot is hard to beat. Still, Ueki is able to pull off a victory in the end with some inventive tree manipulation. Now that Ueki has beaten a member of Robert’s Ten, he gains their attention and is invited to join them. Not wanting to waste this opportunity to challenge Robert and his gifted allies, he accepts and heads to their headquarters. Upon meeting Robert’s Ten, he immediately makes a bad impression and even manages to insult Robert himself. So much for infiltrating the enemy, eh Ueki?

12. Law of the Heavenly Beings - For displeasing Robert, Ueki is tested. For three days he must stand with a large stone block on his back. If he can manage that, he is a member of Robert’s Ten. Meanwhile, some new information is found out about Ueki. Mori discovers that Ueki was actually adopted and Kobasen finds out that Ueki is actually a heavenly being sent to Earth as a baby. While this is certainly useful information, it doesn’t help Ueki now that he has revealed his true intentions to Alesshio who possesses the ability to turn earth into giant scythes.

13. Law of the Heavenly Beast - Just when Ueki and Alesshio's fight gets started, a large fox-like creature erupts from the ground. Apparently it's a heavenly creature that was in search of Ueki in order to eat him. Upon meeting Ueki, though, the monster is unimpressed. The kid hasn't even awaken any of his heavenly powers. Yet Ueki lives to do the impossible and manages to not only reach one, but two levels of his heavenly powers within a short time. The heavenly creature seems impressed by this and agrees to help our hero despite his hatred for the heavenly beings that have treated him so poorly.

14. Law of the Awakening Organ - Ueki returns to the Ten's hideout and tries to trick them with a lie about Alesshio's whereabouts, but the lie doesn't last long. Just as he blurts out the truth that he defeated Alesshio, Don grabs him by the head and races off. Ueki shows off his newfound power by smashing a rock with Kurogane, but Don uses his ability to turn a ring into a rocket and obliterates a large chunk of the landscape. Ueki is no match for this strong opponent, but luckily Tenko, the heavenly creature, has a method for Ueki to get stronger. Too bad he might die if it doesn't work out.

15. Law of Rinko - Upon defeating Don, Ueki is challenged by two more gifted: Marco Mardeeny who can create magma from tomatoes and Rinko Jerad who can turn beads into bombs. Is an already tired Ueki up to the challenge of facing two strong opponents at once? But Rinko takes notice of Ueki's selflessness and begins to wonder what kind of people she has been surrounding herself with. Could it be that Ueki just might find a new ally among Robert's Ten?

16. Law of Neo - Ueki is completely worn out after fighting four of the Ten. Rinko and Tenko do their best to give Ueki some time to heal, but the remaining ten aren't making it easy on them. Oni with his power to turn bamboo into scissors and Becky with her ability to turn bb's into meteorites try to get past Tenko's barrier, but it takes Myouji's ability to turn his whistle into a laser to break through. With Tenko and Rinko out of the fight, it is up to a revived Ueki to set things right. But what surprises will Myouji have for our hero?

17. Law of Two Powers - Myouji Tarou has a little secret he's been keeping from the rest of the Ten. Aside from his ability to create lasers, he has another ability: to turn fans into buzzsaws. Forcing Ueki into a situation where he has to put himself into the direct path of Myouji's lasers, the cheating gifted has the upperhand. But Ueki has never been the type to give up easily and discovers a method of attack that wins the fight. With nine of the Ten defeated, it would seem Ueki has earned a well deserved rest. Unfortunately, a plea from Inumaru--another God Candidate--puts him back into the thick of things.

18. Shiver in Terror, Law of Dogura Mansion - Ueki is invited to a party hosted by Robert Haydn, but Rinko isn't too happy about Ueki attending. Still, the group goes and meets the remaining members of Robert's Ten...including Sano Seiichirou, the man Ueki is intent on saving. Robert intends to have the two groups fight with the possibility of winning a special request from Robert. The first fight is Ueki versus Yun-Pao, a gifted with the ability to turn electricity into...sugar? Sounds ridiculous, but Ueki isn't ready for just how effective this ability actually is.

19. Law of the Cossak Dance - Ueki finally finds out about Yun-Pao's weakness and goes on the attack. With one win on their side, it's Mori's turn to fight. Wait...she doesn't have any powers. How can she hope to defend herself? Her opponent is Kabara, a very talented hunter with the power to turn a cloak into wings. With plenty of ammunition and expert marksmanship, it seems like a lopsided fight. Luckily, what Mori lacks in power she more than makes up for in cunning and intelligence.

20. Law of Cat and Mouse It's Rinko vs. Kabara, and they fight in the...cat field? The objective is to get the opponent to get eaten by a cat, and to do that, they have to turn into a mouse! Slap the cat's nose and they become a mouse! Kabara seems to have the advantage in this one thanks to his ability to fly, but Rinko has a few tricks up her sleeves: some new weapons and a...love of animals?

21. Law of Sano Seiichirou - Ueki is up against none other than Seiichirou Sano, the gifted he was trying to save in the jump rope field. But does Sano really want to be saved? Whatever the case, he isn't cutting Ueki any slack when he goes right into attack mode. With Sano countering every attack Ueki sends his way, our hero is going to have to get creative in order to win this battle. As it turns out, this is what Sano wanted from the beginning. So whose side is our towel user really on? What secret is he hiding from Ueki and his friends?

22. Law of Inumaru - Sano joined the ten for a very specific reason: to rescue Inumaru from a devious attack by Karl Paccho. Using a Death Pentagon, an insect that can instantly kill a heavenly being, Karl forced Sano to join or watch his God Candidate die. But Inumaru's sense of justice won't stand for these conditions. He breaks the cardinal rule of this tournament: a God Candidate can only grant powers to one individual. When he gives Mori powers of her own, he is instantly sent to Hell, freeing Sano of the Ten's grasp. Of course this only serves to infuriate Ueki even more. With a challenge made to Karl Paccho, a new fight begins. But Karl has a surprise: his talent is to copy the power of other gifted. With all the power of Robert's Ten at his disposal, Ueki is in for a tough fight.

23. The Law of Ueki vs. the Ten - Karl Paccho may have the use of the Ten's powers, but that isn't advantage enough to defeat Ueki. With the six star treasure, Raikal, at his disposal Ueki is running circles around Karl. Yet this vile gifted has a few more tricks to pull. He has two more unknown powers no one has seen yet: the ability to instantly know when your opponent is going to attack and the ability to change positions with anyone. Ueki is seemingly overwhelmed at this turn of events, but with some help from Tenko, he comes up with a plan that gives him the win. So now with three wins, Ueki and friends win the challenge (and some pretty cheesy prizes), but Ueki wants more: a fight with Robert! After two consecutive, grueling fights, is Ueki up for this?

24. The Law of Young Robert - Ueki finally has his rematch with Robert and thanks to Rinko, he even gets an insight into Robert's tragic past. Yet this doesn't stop Ueki from wanting to fight the leader of Robert's Ten. Unfortunately for Ueki, Robert reveals the true nature of his: he can turn any ideal into a reality. With such an unlimited power at his disposal, Robert is able to strengthen his own sacred treasures so that Ueki is no match for him. Robert calls this the second level of sacred treasures. Always up for the challenge, Ueki finds his own second level: the ability to summon more than one sacred treasure at a time. Will Ueki's newfound power and justice be enough to defeat the all poweful Robert?

25. Resurrection! Law of Kobasen - Ueki's sense of justice won't let anyone down, even his enemies. But when Ueki shows kindness to Robert, the act does nothing to warm him over. If nothing else, it just motivates him to further his attacks on our hero. So when Ueki looks like he is down for the count, it is up to Sano and Rinko to take on Robert. With a surprising display of teamwork, the two of them show Robert how powerful friendship truly is, but Robert's twisted ideals prove too much for even them. Somehow Ueki finds the strength to push on, standing up after the beating he already took. Yet no matter what Ueki does to Robert, the villain won't give up, either. Only an unexpected ally can put an end to this fight. But why is he here? Wasn't he supposed to be in Hell?

26. Terror! Law of Anon - Kobasen is back from Hell on a mission from Kami. It seems that the tournament is split in two parts and the first part has officially ended; next comes the group battles. A cease fire has been declared and some good news has been delivered: Kobasen and Inumaru can be God Candidates again! While Ueki and friends recover, an introspective Robert starts to wonder about his own motives. A talk with his "father" clarifies things, introducing the new threat of Anon, a very talented heavenly being who is Margaret's true son. What? But what about Robert? And who exactly is this Anon and why does he have such an interest in Ueki?

27. Law of Hideyoshi - When discussing the latest developments with Robert, the group is met by God's assistant who explains the rules of the upcoming team tournament. Wanting another member, they go in search of a gifted by the name of Hideyoshi Souya, a gifted who prefers trickery over fighting. Surprised by what they find, they follow him back to "Sun House" where Hideyoshi helps take care of a group of children. It turns out that Ueki and Mori aren't the first to ask him to join a team. Souya's god candidate has a nasty group in mind, but Souya refuses, choosing to stay with the kids instead. But when one of those wicked gifted steal away with one of Sun House's residents, Souya and Ueki run off to get him back! Ueki may be tough, but how will the sneaky Souya fare in an actual fight?

The gifted liar does his best to avoid the attacks of Mario and Captain, but he succumbs to their onslaught and leaves the Sun House unguarded. Lying on the ground, Souya suddenly remembers his former God Candidate, a kindly man who just wanted to help humans out. Fortunately, Ueki makes it just in time to stop the house from being destroyed, but our hero is outnumbered 3 to 1. It seems that Captain has a nasty little trick up his sleeve: his power of freezing breath has another stage that completely freezes something and allows him to smash it easily. Is Ueki up for the challenge or will Mori be picking up little frozen pieces of our favorite heavenly being?

29. Law of Immortal Tenko - Tenko is grateful to Ueki. He has given him friendship, a purpose and treasured memories. But Tenko has a secret: if he raises Ueki seven stars, Tenko will die. Tenko knows that if he tells Ueki this he will refuse to reach the nine star level. However, Tenko knows that Ueki has to get stronger to face his opponents. Unsure about what to do, Tenko decides to give his life for Ueki's quest to become stronger. After all, it was the first time in a long while that Tenko has felt needed and he appreciates it so much. When Mori finds out about this secret, she rushes off to stop Tenko from raising Ueki's level, but it is too late: Ueki is already inside of the awakening organ and he can't hear Mori from the outside. Will Ueki lose another precious friend in the name of this heavenly tournament?

30. Law of the Third Battle - Ueki and friends are ready to start the team tournament stage. They make way to Heaven where they meet four other teams of gifted whom they are meant to battle. God makes an appearance to tell the teams the rules for this stage of the tournament and with his usual penchant for eccentricities, starts off with a treasure hunting battle by sending the two teams to their destination via a heavenly pachinko method. Ueki's Team is going to be up against the Guruno Team. Right from the start, Ueki is up against Gitar, a music loving guy in a full black suit. Ueki attacks him with everything he has, but Gitar just shakes off the attacks, claiming to be invulnerable. How will Ueki be able to defeat someone he can't even hurt?

31. Law of the Strongest Tag - With one win, Team Ueki looks optimistic, but a new challenge awaits the group. This time around, Sano and Rinko will have to face a pair of gifted that make use of each other's abilities to defeat opponents. Muunin can turn bad puns into reality when the opponent laughs and Pastello can turn any line drawing into a portal which he uses to tickle the intended victim. Sano and Rinko are competent on their own, but lately they've been getting on each other's nerves. Can Sano look past Rinko's carefulness? Can Rinko look past Sano's carelessness? If they want to win this battle, they will have to find a way to look past each other's flaws and work together as a team.

32. Law of Really Strong! - Ueki talks with Pekol who wishes to be strong just like Ueki. Inspired by Ueki's defeat of Gitar, he decides to quit working with Gurono. When he confronts his teammate about this, though, Pekol is verbally deflated and submits to Gurono's whims. With the ability to turn models into the real thing, Gurono summons a giant robot to combat Ueki. With no robot of his own, Ueki must rely on his own abilities.
