Pyramid Head
Pyramid Head is a fictional monster from the video game Silent Hill 2.
Physical Appearance
Pyramid Head looks like a tall man covered with a white, blood-soaked butcher's smock. His most outstanding feature is a large, pyramid-shaped helmet, covering his head completely. He usually is armed, either with the Great Knife or with a spear. Pyramid Head doesn't talk. He appears to be very brutal and sadistic, killing monsters and people alike, often "raping" his victims before murdering them. His role seems to be that of a punisher.
Plot
James Sunderland, the protagonist of the game, first encounters Pyramid Head in West Side Apartments. He hears a scream in one of the corridors and heads there, only to see the monster, standing behind the grate.
Later he enters Room 307, where Pyramid Head is "raping" (with clothes on) two Mannequins. Terrified, James hides in a closet. The monster walks up to the closet slowly and panicked James shoots him with a handgun a number of times. His bullets reflect harmlessly off the monster's helmet. After a moment, Pyramid Head hesitates and walks away.
Pyramid Head is then fought in Blue Creek apartments. When James enters the door leading to a stairway, his antagonist is busy "raping" a monster. He turns to James and tries to kill him. Luckily his movements are severely hampered by a huge knife he's carrying. After being shot at repeatedly, sirens sound in the distance and Pyramid Head descends the flooded stairway, opening the door at the bottom and removing the water.
He is not met until later, on the roof of the Brookhaven Hospital, where he tries to kill James again. James breaks the safety railing and falls down, sustaining minor injuries. Mysteriously, the Pyramid Head seems to abandon his efforts for the moment and doesn't pursue to attack him again.
Later in the hospital Pyramid Head appears to torment Maria, who is following James through a lengthy corridor. When James makes it to the end of the corridor into an elevator, the doors shut with James in it. While trying to re-open the doors, Maria screams in agony as Pyramid Head kills her. The elevator then takes James away.
A next encounter occurs in the Labyrinth beneath Toluca Prison. After finding Maria alive, but locked behind a grate, James meets his enemy, carrying a spear as he is patrolling an octagonal-shaped corridor. By outrunning him, James can enter a room which is apparently inhabited by Pyramid Head himself, as evidenced by the Great Knife lying here and numerous corpses hanging from the ceiling. The room also contains a large ceiling fan and a table, covered with blood and with some scissors on it.
Soon after, James finds out that Maria is dead, seemingly killed with a spear. A newspaper clipping is also found which indicates that a man was found, murdered with a sharp tool.
The last time Pyramid Head is found before the final boss. There are in fact two Pyramid Heads (possibly because of Eddie's earlier death). They kill Maria and James attacks them. After being shot at for a while, both commit suicide by impaling themselves on spears. They only die because James no longer needs them.
Trivia
In the SH2 demo, Pyramid Heads were regular enemies rather than bosses.
The Pyramid Heads resemble the executioners from an earlier point of the town's history. This explains why they are spattered with blood and why their faces are concealed.
According to the Silent Hill developers, they designed the helmet so that it would appear to be painful to wear it.
The Pyramid Heads are created out of James' subconscious need for someone to punish him, and is in fact representative of James, himself. The rapings of other monsters (who are all female in form) by Pyramid Head are symbolic of James' sexual frustration with his wife, Mary, after the debilitating illness claimed her and made life with her difficult.
It is theorized that the Pyramid Heads are controlled by another presence. Supporting evidence includes the Mark of Samael from the first game drawn on the floor during the final fight with the Pyramid Heads, and the siren (also from the first game) that sounds during the stairway scene.
Pyramid Head's hands are placed on him backwards (the left is where the right should be and the right with the left); something that many people don't notice. [Correction] This is actualy incorrect. his hands are on the right way round. the picture doesn't show this very well. http://www.agony.igotaletter.com/creature.html this is taken fom ingame and shows his hands on the right way
