On 2 May 2004, Tali Hatuel, an Israeli social worker and mother of four girls — Hila (11), Hadar (9), Roni (7), and Meirav (2) — and at the time eight months pregnant with her fifth child, was traveling from central Israel to her home in the Gush Katif settlement in the Gaza Strip. While driving in the vicinity of the Kissufim Crossing, she and her four girls were shot and killed by Palestinian terrorists. The terrorists launched their attack from a group of buildings which the Israel Defense Forces sought to demolish, but were prevented from doing by court orders issued by the Israeli Supreme Court.[1] The Israeli Defense Force killed the terrorists.

Both The Popular Resistance Committees and Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the deaths.

On May 9, 2004, two terrorists, dressed in women's clothing [2], opened fire upon individuals participating in a memorial service for Tali Hatuel and her four daughters. The individuals, "including terrified toddlers, pinned to the ground for 20 minutes". [3]. There were no civilian injuries. The terrorists were killed by the Israel Defense Forces. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack. (Maariv)

On May 10, 2004, the Israel Defense Forces demolished some of the houses that provided cover to the terrorists during the attack on Tali Hatuel and her daughters, as well as the attack on the mourners at her memorial service one week later. (INN)
