Merion Golf Club
Appearance
Merion Golf Club is a private golf club located in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. All holes on Merion's East Course have wicker flagsticks. It has been the site of several U.S. Opens and U.S. Amateur Championships, including the 1916 U.S. Amateur Championships, where Bobby Jones made his debut.
It was also the site of Ben Hoagan's amazing comback in 1950 after a head on collision with a bus in 1949 nearly killed him and shattered his pelvis. Hogan defeated Lloyd Mangrum and George Fazio in an 18-hole playoff to win the U.S. Open.
